I certainly feel that hockey doesn't get the credit it deserves, but I'm a Canadian who grew up in Canada. My question is, will you still be watching the Bruins and dedicate time to following them if they suck again?

i'm with you guys...i think these forums are more quiet because hockey fans in general respect each other...the other forums are full of people who like to attack each other for their team affiliations...

The Montreal-Boston game is the reason more people should watch hockey. Two rivals going at it, going right down to the wire. I've been to both games in Montreal and games in LA this season, and I must say the difference is disgusting! More people should care about hockey; you don't get more action in 60 minutes than on the ice!

Re: Am I Alone in Feeling...

I recently took my friend and my girlfriend to their first hockey games (separate games though). They absolutely loved it. It doesn't get the respect it deserves, probably because it's so different from football, baseball, and basketball. But the skill these players show on a nightly basis is unbelievable. If people tried to play hockey they'd be amazed at how easy guys in the NHL make it look.

I always liked what Pavel Bure said (I don't where I heard or read it though). "Everyone can run, not everyone can skate." That's why it'll always be the third wheel nationally, but maybe that's always why I love the sport so much.

Before the lockout I was all about hockey. Loved PJ Stock! Samsonov, Thorton, Murray, Hal Gill, Boynton. I remember all those guys. When the lockout happened I obviously lost interest.

I paid no attention last year. Not because they werent awesome. Just because I had no interest in hockey.

Then the playoffs came around and I watched a game, and it was like I switched back on my love for hockey.

Its full circle with me too. I play ice hockey every saturday with friends now, NHL 09 is my most played game and the Bruins are my favorite team (Even though the Celts are just destroying everyone again).

I didn't answer the question, haha.

Yes I think I will still watch them. I mean if they are utterly terrible and not even entertaining to watch anymore than, no, I won't watch them that much if at all. As long as they are somewhat competitive and play a fun game to watch I am all about it.

Hey, I watched every game of the B's 96 season with Kasper as coach. Now that team was bad.

The NHL hurt themselves when they went to Versus. Yes it was more money but they lost so much exposure. Most people don't even know what the hell Versus is, let alone where to find it. It was a real low class production those first few years. It is significantly better now.

I was watching sports center the other day and after about 25 min, not 1 single hockey highlight. Then they covered about 6 games in a minute or two and back to MLS or some other junk.

The NHL needs to get back on ESPN.

They also hurt themselves by trying to appease the casual and new fans but by doing so they alienated there hardcore base. That first year after the lockout was a pretty bad product. There was no physical play at all. Teams getting 13-14 pp's! They seem to have found that balance this year though. A lot of physical play but without the grabbing and holding that was causing all the pp's.

ESPN doesn't give a **** about hockey. Out of all the sports on OS, this one gets the least love. The NHL forum is dead compared to NBA, NFL and MLB. I really feel this game is more entertaining than any of those.

Anyone else share these feelings?
It's okay. We more than make up for it north of the border.

It's great to see strong teams in Boston and Chicago this year. I'd love for them to become full-fledged hockey towns again.
