Trade between the Leafs and Blues:

Leafs get: Lee Stempniak
Blues get: Carlo Colaiacovo, Alex Steen

I don't know much about Stempniak's game, but the Leafs needed to move a d-man, and Steen didn't look like he was improving in Toronto. I think it might be a pretty decent trade for both teams.

What are your thoughts on this play?

Zeiler got a 3-game suspension.

It's such a tough situation to do anything about. A player who is well checked on a play shouldn't be able to just turn his back to his checker in order avoid the hit and allow him to make the play with the puck.

At the same time it is incredibly dangerous to allow players to follow through with a hit from behind regardless the scenario. In the video though you can even see Zeiler trying to get and angle on Foote from the side, he tries to get underneath Foote's arm to take him to the boards hard from the side. Unfortunately Foote's skates were dug in going one direction and it ended up as an awkward collision into the boards. Not suspension worthy though.

I wish it happened to someone other than Foote, because then I could feel sad for him.

And yes, that probably makes me a bad person, but I don't care.

Re: The 2008-09 NHL Regular Season

I guess if they want to completely eliminate hits from behind, then giving that guy a suspension is the way to do it. But I don't see it as being dirty at all. He wanted to hit the guy, yes, it's hockey, you are allowed to hit. He didn't leave his feet or anything and it certainly wasn't overly violent.

In those situations, the onus has to be on the player being hit as well. Just as the player behind you can't hit you, you shouldn't put yourself in that situation either. We hear this everytime something like that happens. I don't understand why it keeps happening. Just as "keep your head up" is one of the first things you learn, "don't have your face against the boards" should be the second thing you learn. You don't penalize guys for making huge open ice, head down hits, you shouldn't for hits against the board (unless of course they ARE dirty hits).

Also, another thing I don't like about hockey is when the Avs players realize Foote is down and hurt, they jump Zeiler. I've never liked that goon part of the game. The guy checked your player, that doesn't mean you should be able to jump him. If it was a dirty hit, then yeah, you have every right to protect your teammate, but it was just a good clean hit by Zeiler (minus the fact that Foote PUT himself in that situation). It's not going to change, but I've never liked it...

He never had to hit him that hard....they were going into the boards and Zeiler could have let up.....

Re: The 2008-09 NHL Regular Season

Steve Mason just kicked the Nucks in the balls with some of the saves he just made.

Insane.

Bruins are 2nd in the power rankings.

Not like ESPN knows about hockey though, haha.
