It's all subjective I guess. But I know people on both sides of the fence that had to deal with Hargrove and the impressions given were not good.
One guy said that during union 'orientation' (see 'brainwashing'), he and others were basically taught to hate the company and stand against them. Wow! What a great idea. Lets hate the people that pay us $60K a year to push a button all day. Because you know, the rest of the world can get a job that pays that much to do so little.
But that's another subject for another day.
The fact is, if this guy is on the board it's because of the wars he fought with the establishment. The same will be done as a PA representative.
Talk about overreaction. First what history do you speak of?
Do you mean how the first iteration of the NHL that didn't allow forward passing?
Or had bluelines? Or allowed goalies to go down to stop shots?
Or had 6 skaters aside?
Based on your criteria the history of the game was destroyed a long, long time ago.
I'm not a Bettman apologist but not everything can be blamed on him.
Expansion for one. There is a lot of evidence out there that shows the NHL wanted to expand to all the cities we have now as early as 1980.
Bettman also was one of the only people that fought to keep all the 6 Canadian cities afloat. He instituted a rule that allowed Canadian clubs to pay salaries in CDN $ with the league picking up the difference.
He's done a lot of crap but at the same time every decision he makes, for the most part, is approved by the owners. Expansion, rule changes, etc. All of it is done via the owners. And if you check your facts you'll also see that a lot of these 'BS' rule changes were implemented by the Competition committee that was formed by the players and where any rule they make has to be approved by the PA.
In my opinion both sides are a**holes. The owners are stupid for not realizing that the game is a regional game the PA are just as dumb for taking the militant stands they have over the years.
It'll take a complete evaporation of the NHL before either side realizes how stubborn and ignorant they are.
