If you don't know who Buzz Hargrove is, you'll probably become very intimate with him in the next couple of years.
He's a militant, brainwashed former Canadian Auto Worker union head.

If this is who the PA is hiring as consultants we should all watch as much hockey as we can, because chances are good strikes and lockouts are on their way.

Wow strong overreaction to a man who fought for thousands of peoples jobs,
difference of opinion but wow.
I cant imagine someone better to fight the true evil of the NHL which is Gary Bettman...

Good for the NHLPA for hiring him hopefully he wont allow the NHL to destroy a game we all love piece by piece with BS rule changes, flawed planning.
The day the net changes sizes or shootouts make it in the NHL Playoffs is the day that sport and all its history will die, and bank on G.B to fight to see it happen.

Well I don't agree with a lot of things Hargrove has said and done but I don't think he's some militant moron. His last work with the CAW was commended and I thought he did well in a bad situation there.

I don't know exactly what his role will be but he's been through a ton of collective bargaining deals and I think that's good experience to have on a team whether it be for a union or for an employer such as the NHL.

It's all subjective I guess. But I know people on both sides of the fence that had to deal with Hargrove and the impressions given were not good.
One guy said that during union 'orientation' (see 'brainwashing'), he and others were basically taught to hate the company and stand against them. Wow! What a great idea. Lets hate the people that pay us $60K a year to push a button all day. Because you know, the rest of the world can get a job that pays that much to do so little.

But that's another subject for another day.

The fact is, if this guy is on the board it's because of the wars he fought with the establishment. The same will be done as a PA representative.

Talk about overreaction. First what history do you speak of?
Do you mean how the first iteration of the NHL that didn't allow forward passing?
Or had bluelines? Or allowed goalies to go down to stop shots?
Or had 6 skaters aside?
Based on your criteria the history of the game was destroyed a long, long time ago.
I'm not a Bettman apologist but not everything can be blamed on him.
Expansion for one. There is a lot of evidence out there that shows the NHL wanted to expand to all the cities we have now as early as 1980.
Bettman also was one of the only people that fought to keep all the 6 Canadian cities afloat. He instituted a rule that allowed Canadian clubs to pay salaries in CDN $ with the league picking up the difference.

He's done a lot of crap but at the same time every decision he makes, for the most part, is approved by the owners. Expansion, rule changes, etc. All of it is done via the owners. And if you check your facts you'll also see that a lot of these 'BS' rule changes were implemented by the Competition committee that was formed by the players and where any rule they make has to be approved by the PA.

In my opinion both sides are a**holes. The owners are stupid for not realizing that the game is a regional game the PA are just as dumb for taking the militant stands they have over the years.

It'll take a complete evaporation of the NHL before either side realizes how stubborn and ignorant they are.
