Re: 19 yr old retires...this is a weird one fellas!

A lot of younger players retire if they feel there isn't enough money to be made in hockey or they feel they could make more money in their existing careers. I haven't seen it happen on such a high level, though...usually the highest percentage of retirements happen when college or junior players fail to be signed or drafted by a professional league.

Despite that, it's very strange, especially since the site doesn't list a reason for his retirement.

These younger players don't actually retire in the true sense of the word since they weren't big time pros....not being drafted forces your retirement...this one is on his own and he was a high draft pick...potential for good $$$ left on the table...

I wondering if the kid has an illness that will be revealed later on.

He's a good player and won a gold medal as part of the Canadian Jr team.

A shocker for sure.

I hope everything is well for him and his family. It's definitely odd.

Sad to say I won't get to see him play with the Jackets...

That's got to suck to waste such an early pick on a player who just decided he's not going to play anymore.

XM Home ice quoted his agent as saying there's a possibility he'll be in camp afterall.
At the moment Legion is working at a pizza parlor in St.Catherines.

Insiders are saying that he's getting an intimate look at what real life is about and it's given him the motivation to pursue a career in the NHL.

Good Stuff...he better have his head on straight, but this just helps their prospect system even more. With Ruth, Goloubef, Filatov, Mayorov, Legin, and some others, we have an ever brighter future to go along with Brassard, Voracek, and Mason.
