The CBC is so STUPID!

Last night the liscence agreement to play the HNIC song expired. The group that owns the song's rights offered CBC the same deal as they have for the last decade which is a royalty of 500 bucks per broadcast which is peanuts compared to other themes and such.

The CBC refused and now it looks like they're going in another direction. The HNIC theme is like the 2nd national anthem for Canada and doing this is comparable to shooting yourself in the head. If the CBC indeed goes through with this then there's going to be a gnashing of teeth like we've never seen before.

Again this is just mind numbingly STUPID!

Wow, thats just unbelievable. I'm having a hard time accepting that. Hopefully they'll get it back for the Fall.

I have a feeling it will be back next season. Who else is going to shell out that kind of dough to use the song over and over again?

Can't believe TSN bought the rights to the HNIC theme song. CBC is to blame for losing it as they should have signed a new deal before the old one even ran out. It's going to be really strange hearing the song on TSN next year. Not too fond of this whole situation, it belongs on CBC with all that tradition, but they botched the whole process so they got what they deserve. Just another blunder by the CBC suits.

Can't wait to hear the awful new song CBC comes up with for HNIC next season... It's also funny to see TSN spinning things on their site saying they "saved" the theme song. Saved or snaked in and stole? Either way, it's CBC's fault.

Oh man... CBC is dead now.

Well that's what you get for "wanting to go in a new direction" it's gonna be odd hearing that theme before all american matchups in the regular season.

All of TSN's 70 regular season games in 08/09 will involve at least one Canadian team.
