Canes lost Erik Cole. Traded him to the Oilers for D Joni Pitkanen (sp?). I hope Joni does the job. The only players probably more popular than Cole was Staal & Brindy. Canes need the back line help, but I really hate seeing Cole leave.

I'm not either. But we also have to admit the Canes downfall last season was the backline. This might end up being a Nomar for Cabrera move. When you line the 2 up, it isn't an even swap. But it might actually make you a better overall team. That's my hope.

It sucks losing Eric Cole... He is a fan favorite and played hard.
The problem I had with him is that he had a hard time finishing drives to the net where other true "superstars" that had the kind of spacing he would typically get would score or at least put a heck of a good shot on net.
At least we didn't resign and overpay for Commadore like one jackhat team did.
Here's hoping to at least a competitive year that sees a playoff run.

I'm worried about how they'll fare this year. I think it was a mistake giving Ruutu a 3-year deal and now since they gave up Stillman to TB last year and Cole this year, I think the offense will be wanting...
Let's just hope injuries don't derail the team like last year's...and that's a huge if

Canes open up 2-0. A wild win over Florida, 6-4. Then they come from 3 down to beat Tampa on the road in OT, 4-3. Staal had the game-tying & winning goals.
