Flyers are stocking up on defensemen. We just got Janne Niskala from the Nashville Predators for Triston Grant and a pick next year. Over the draft weekend, we got Steve Eminger for a pick and drafted defensemen with our first two picks.

great news, we resigned Carter today

Flyers ink up-and-coming center Carter to multiyear contract
Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia Flyers and Jeff Carter agreed to a multiyear contract Friday, only days before the center was set to become a restricted free agent.

Carter, 23, was taken 11th overall by the Flyers in the 2003 draft and has 66 goals and 132 points in 225 career games. Carter played in all 82 games last season and had 29 goals and 53 points. He scored six more goals in the playoffs and helped the Flyers reach the Eastern Conference finals.

When the Flyers lost All-Star center Mike Richards to a hamstring injury in late February, Carter picked up the scoring slack. He had eight goals in the nine games Richards missed, helping the Flyers go 5-2-2 in that span.

Yes! Let's close the deal with Umberger.

Did we not trade his rights to the Columbus Blue Jackets during draft weekend?

Yeah, traded Umberger.

Glad Carter is signed and sealed. I wonder how much is left under the cap.

Out of the loop on the West Coast....

Did Kapanen retire? Is Hatcher coming back?

I also see the Flyers traded the new Janne to Tampa....bizarre.
Looks like Melrose is getting management to bring in new blood...(although signing Malone and Prospal to long-term deals doesn't look too good).

Kapanen did retire and Hatcher is currently weighing his options. He and Homer have been talking while Hatcher gets some opinions on his knee and whether he can go another season. I think he wants to come back, but it sounds like Homer is planning on him hanging them up.

At this point, I think that would be the best option for all parties involved.

Re: The Official Thread of the Philadelphia Flyers (Established 2005)

Flyers got a couple of guys today. The two names that I recognized were Glen Metropolit and Ossi Vaananen. I think Vaananen could play for the Flyers this upcoming season... looking at his last few years he had a + rating with Colorado, though last year he played in Sweden. It could be attractive to him to come play with Kimmo Timonen and Lasse Kukkonen, two of his fellow countrymen. We shall see.
