Re: Gregg Williams ran a bounty system in NOLA

Another thing I think that is worth pointing out is if this system was really effective in inspiring Saints defenders to deliberately injure, then why didn't we see the Saints defenders basically go for cheapshots and dangerous hits like aiming at the knees practically every time they made a tackle? I know guys like Harper have a bit of a rep but what team doesn't have one or two guys who do? (answer: soft teams).

Punishing one for the crime of many is not new and remains an effective way to curb violations, but this is fast becomming more about the NFL being pressured to do something in retaliation to media hype and fan outrage, than a legitimate violation being brought to justice. The hard reality everyone has to realize in the NFL is tough defense equals injuries, injuries for the opposition rarely hurt your team's chances, and defenders already have massive incentive to play tough defense if they can. Connect the dots.

Feel free to respond to a point or two rather than troll.

I've already pointed out how The "Fisher tree", if you could call it that, appears to have a little bit of a theme going lately, and it is questionable play on D. The Titans had the most 15 yard penalties by far in the NFL from 2001-2010. My fanship is irrelevant and if anything I'd actually be prone to being anti Williams as I'm firmly not a Fisher supporter and haven't been for some time.

Must have been on target to elicit this response.

I'm not actually defending this at all - I'm mearly pointing out while we all blast Williams, lets not pretend it is his cunningly devised system of paying players relatively petty amounts of cash that all of a sudden turns defenders who come across his practice field from angels to demons - the NFL itself is what drives this. I mean, what's the outcome here, you stop hidden payment systems from existing around the league? And that's supposed to 'fix' defenders from pushing the boundaries in their pursuit of victory?

My point is on the contradictions of criticism and the problem as a whole, if we are to conclude that this is indeed a problem. As an extension, the media's inability to take this angle and instead focus on the easy kill. As tasteless as a payment system is, merely not actively preaching what effectively would be soft defense is enough to reproduce the same sort of system on any defense in the NFL, it's just not going to be anywhere as easily detected.

But whatever, you'll probably have a pointless response lined up for this as well. I've learned long ago you're not worth engaging in discussion, to be honest.

Re: Gregg Williams ran a bounty system in NOLA

At no point at any time over the last 3 decades in the NFL or any football league for that matter, has a bounty system been considered acceptable. Play fast, play hard, bring the lumber yes. Intentionally injuring opponents or ruining careers are not. This dates back to Tim Harris and his shenanigans vs. the Bears and beyond.

To try to pass this off as acceptable, or no big deal, and it happens everywhere, etc. is ridiculous.

Obviously that's not true since you continue to engage. Furthering my point I was right on target, and why you are so desperate to defend your posts as being somehow neutral or unbiased.

Whether the media is making a big deal out of this or not, make no mistake, Goodell will make a big deal out of it to set an example.

I have no doubt the hammer will come down.

The media's role in this has no bearing on anything. This is not a media fabricated story or some minor issue the media is blowing out of proportion.

Re: Gregg Williams ran a bounty system in NOLA

Yes but the way you guys are talking about is like the Saints players went out after guys knees, headshots, etc. when that wasn't the case.

Atleast the majority of the team, Roman Harper is just ********
Spoiler

The bounty system isn't something minor I just don't think it warrants the punishments being talked about.

I'm just saying, I think Goodell will prove otherwise.
