Dudes bein' dudes, IMHO...

The fact that none of the players seem to be shocked or offended tells me that the "spirit" of this isn't as simplistic as the "bumper sticker" boiled down / sensationalized version...

"Let the players play"

It becomes a very different thing when you are compensating players for their play outside of their contract, vs "golf games, card games, vegas" ... that's the distinction many people just aren't getting.

Heck yeah, when you want to know the answer to any question "follow the money"...

This is more about the cap / collective bargaining agreement / publicity / marketing...

Those aspects drove the league to play it's hand...

I'm just saying that that wasn't going to occur to a bunch of guys sitting around in a film room...

Saint's coaches and players may have long suspensions.

Quote:
Williams, who ran the bounty program and who’s now the defensive coordinator of the Rams, would seem to be the person who would get the longest suspension. Rams head coach Jeff Fisher should probably be in the process of coming up with a Plan B at the defensive coordinator position on his coaching staff because Williams, the Plan A, may be unavailable for some or all of the season.

But Payton and Loomis appear to be facing discipline as well, and players involved could also be suspended. The NFL said 22 to 27 players on the Saints were involved, but the league hasn’t said who those players are. We don’t know how many are still in the league, how many are still with the Saints and whether some players were ringleaders of the bounty program and will face more significant than others.

I'm not really into suspending the players, fine/suspend the coaches for execution of the program and cover up

The players covered it up too if they were interviewed as part of the previous investigation and lied.

Not to mention participating to begin with, it's not like they didn't know this wasn't allowed either.

I guess, but i'm also one of the few here that just sees a bounty as apart of football.

Yeah, I'm seeing that same attitude from a lot of Saints fans.

Respectfully, most of them just don't get it, and say what you just said, ignoring the compensation outside of the cap, and intent to injure other players. You want messing with the integrity of the game, this is it right here. Outside of PEDs and outright cheating other ways, this is as serious as it gets.

I understand the reasoning, but it's just the way i've played football if you could knock a guy out you took that shot as long as it wasn't dirty/illegal.

But with your argument you say it's not as bad as pure outright cheating, but are you fine with a punishment that's probably going to be greater then spygate?

Who was hurt in spygate, and how long did it last and how many were involved? Yeah, I expect this to be exponentially bigger of a penalty, a program over multiple years, an investigation into it that program that was successfully covered up at the time, compensation of players outside the cap and under the table (or do you think they reported that income?), apparently documented/proven intent to injure other players and encouragement to do so with cash.

Yeah man, if you think they're close, the blinders are on pretty tight. Comparing this to taped signals that players can already see while simply standing on the field... or a walkthrough... I don't know what to say.

Simply paying players for performance, like INTs and whatnot and minus the injury component, over multiple years, would be more serious than spygate all by itself.

Tack on top of this it actually appears to have happened for several years across multiple franchises... yeah man, I expect 2-3+ picks gone, 1.5m+ in fines, no idea what the suspensions will look like... but I expect them for both players and coaches.
