Re: Jamarcus Russell or Ryan Leaf?

Nice question. I started comparing Russell to Leaf a little while back.

I'm probably going with Leaf, cause he might've been good in another situation. JaMarcus just looks like he doesn't care, or if he does he's still not getting anything done.

Agreed. Russel has never shown an ounce of being a self-motivated player nor person: no work ethic, no pride, no sense of wanting to be a winner, he shows up out of shape & overweight, doesn't stay around the clubhouse to learn, nothing. At least Leaf played with some passion (in college) and as Blue stated, had he gone to a better organization he might have not been a complete bust.

I'm going with Russell. Granted the guy has looked awful, but it's not like he has alot to work with out there in Oakland.

Leaf. He'll give me the better locker room breakdown after we're slaughtered on the field.

Re: Jamarcus Russell or Ryan Leaf?

I'd take Leaf I suppose. Funny, earlier this season a couple of people gave me grief because I made a comment about "Jamarcus Leaf". They even went so far as to state that releasing Jeff Garcia was a good move by the Raiders because Russel had been showing improvement in the pre-season and because the backups did ok in the pre-season. But nope, Russel really IS that bad. It was obvious then, and it's still obvious now.

At this point it's no question. One is a already proven bust the other is on his way there.

The Russell pick still remains the most brainless in recent memory. There was SO much talent in the first round of that draft, at so many different positions. I don't understand what the Raiders were possibly thinking.

Hindsight is always 20/20. Russell looked to be good on paper, and definitely had (and still does have) the physical gifts to play the position. He just doesn't have the drive, and seems to be satisfied with his paycheck alone.

Re: Jamarcus Russell or Ryan Leaf?

He really didn't look good on paper though. Most people didn't see him as a top pick. His work ethic was really poor. I don't think it matters what system he came into.

Considering there was so much talent at more important positions in that draft, it isn't a hindsight thing. Why are you taking a project QB at 1 when Joe Thomas or Patrick Willis are available? Even on the offensive side, you had two much safer picks like Calvin Johnson and Adrian Peterson.

The Russell pick was dumb any way you cut it.
