Pro Football>Freeman named starter
daniverson1973 04:07 PM 10-28-2009
from the Bucs website:

Head Coach Raheem Morris made that announcement on Wednesday afternoon following a 65-minute practice at One Buccaneer Place. As this is the Buccaneers' bye week, the team will have a little extra time to get Freeman ready for his starting debut against the Green Bay Packers on November 8.

"He's going to go out there and it's going to help him," said Morris. "He'll get better. He has his center back in Jeff Faine. Some of these offensive linemen are healthy. Antonio Bryant's starting to get healthier and healthier. His running backs are coming along. You've got Derrick Ward, you've got Earnest at quarterback, you've got Cadillac; it's time for those guys to step up. We went through the growing pains of the 0-7; now it's time for him to come in there and join his team and lead us."

haha, thats funny, he waits for their record to be 0-7 and now he wants the team to be led, too interesting :-) [Reply]

if Freeman can do half as good as Sanchez, i guess we'll get a few wins, maybe [Reply]

Problem is Josh Freeman isn't even close to Mark Sanchez's level. [Reply]

It depends on who you ask. But the QB spot isnt the big problem Josh Johnson has talent. That team just stinks! [Reply]

Firing your offensive coordinator was the best the move. [Reply]

Well, they might as well find out now what you have in the kid. Put the kid in and make him learn behind that decent, young o-line.

The learnign curve is going to be very rough, though. Freeman was very raw at Kansas State. [Reply]

Yeah, I'm glad that they made the move since Josh hasn't been playing very well, and me being a BIG skeptic of Freeman, I'm looking forward to him finally getting on the field. I don't think he's going to pan out, but I'd much rather see what he's got then just take what looks like an inevitable 0-16 season. [Reply]

At this point in the season, there isn't a wrong move at the QB position. If Morris and the Bucs believe that this kid is the future this is the perfect time to start him. He will have 2 week to study film and pick up on the tendancies of the Packers, plus being able to watch them live the week before will help.

He should at the very least be completely comfortable with the first 15 scripted plays they run to open that game. I think that it will be more telling what happens the next week when he only has 4 days to prepare for the next team. [Reply]

yah i totally agree with that.
i dont think the bucs go 0-16, i know they win at least one game, and freeman prob gives them their best chance...
yah he's raw and so was stafford, both coming out as juniors with howitzer arms
im really anxious to see what he can against green bay
i'll bet the blitz the bejezzees outta him [Reply]

Freeman should absolutely not be starting next week. He's raw, he's young, and he was, in my opinion, overrated coming out of Kansas State. Josh Johnson has been turning the ball over but he's a pretty solid QB considering where he came from the incredible lack of talent we have on offense, and the fact that our offense coordinator calls plays that the team has never practiced before during a game. Yeah, that happened. Think about this, if Freeman didn't get so much hype coming into this draft and we took him in lets say the third round, there would be no way he'd be out there now. Yet, he's got that 1st round tag on him which means to so many people that he can go out and perform like Flacco last year. He should sit for a couple more weeks, learn, prepare, and then start the last four games or so. BTW I'm not a fan of this kid. [Reply]
