I know that there are way more great defense's in NFL history( purple people eaters, 76 Rams etc...) but these are the 5 i choose to go with.

I'm a massive Bears fan I still went Ravens at number 1.

I respect those Steeler squads but in no ONE year do they match up up agianst the 00 Ravens. To give them a decade and all the other squads a season just reeks of wrongness.

The poll is a bit off. If you're going single season then it's a toss-up between the 72 Dolphins and the 85 Bears. The Bears had better athletes, but the Dolphins didn't give up enough points to lose a game. Tough call.

All-time, it's not even a valid argument to argue against the 70's Steelers Steel Curtain defense. They were the best by far; nasty at every position for an entire decade.

The 2000 Ravens won Trent Dilfer a SB ring. Any defense that could do that gets my vote.

The Steelers' Steel Curtain gets my vote, although the homer in me would take the 2002 Tampa Bay Cover-2 over two of the teams on your list.

I said the 00 Ravens, but im a bit biased cause thats the only team on that list i've actually seen play.

The 2002 Bucs should be on that list. The only gave up 12 points a game. Not sure about the 91 Eagles. Great in terms of yardage, but they allowed more than 15 points a game. That is a really good defense, but not an all time defense.

But the 2000 Ravens pwn all. 10 points a game. TEN. 2.7 yards per rushing attempt. 4 shutouts. 12 times they held the opponent to under 10 points. They only had 3 games where the opposition scored 20 or more. There offense scored less than 20 in nine games, but they still won the super bowl. In the playoffs they allowed on average less than 6 points a game.

that defense was the best ever.
