The same reason Joe Namath and his questionable stats are in the HOF. His historic victory.

Theres nothing wrong with Namath's stats for his time. A lot of people go on about how he threw INTs, not considering that there wasnt always this emphasis on QB rating (which heavily values Comp% and low INTs). Namath threw the ball downfield. He had a big arm and they used it, resulting in throws that were higher risk reward.

I'm not trashing Namath. I'm just saying that stats aren't everything.

They suck for today's game, but they were good enough for 5 pro bowls and 2 player of the year awards.

One historic victory and he's HOF worthy? It's the Hall of Fame, not the Hall of Single Achievements. I applaud Dough Williams for what he said, but for the most part he was a mediocre QB who spent a large part of his career in the USFL.

Namath was one of the best QB's of his era, the stats from that era you can not compare to todays stats. Williams was not one of the best QB of his era. He was middle of the pack at best. Even when he was young and in Tampa and had some success there.

I am a Doug Williams fan, but he's got no business being in the HOF based on that one win.

No way he should be in the HOF, ur putting him in their for what he did off the field, if u did that you would be really lowering the standard of what belongs in the HOF because he was not even one of the best at his positions when he played. Great guy off the field but no way he belongs in the nfl hof.
