NNAMDI ASOMUGHA!

I swear this dude has to be the most underrated player in the NFL. Absolute beast at corner. Does anyone know anything about how long he has left on his contract? I'd hate to see him rot away in Oakland forever.

That is what I thought too before I watched him play the Patriots and man was I let down. Most teams don't throw at him because they "respect" him and "fear" him but the Patriots did the complete opposite. They targeted him on multiple occasions and he got worked over by a mediocre qb. This was the first time I had seen him get targeted like that for what its worth. I am starting to believe teams fear him too much though.

randy moss had like 2-3 catches on him...
and the one time i recall someone attacking him deep, he had an amazing pick off of delhome intended for steve smith

he got fracnhised last offseason, hes prbly gonna get franchised again, hopefully the raiders show some progress next year. so dumb how he only got 32/50 votes for allpro, he easily should have been unanimous

I'm not saying that he isn't good. He is better than 90% of starting cornerbacks in the NFL (though that is more of a reflection on the poor state of CB play in the NFL) but he is rated perfectly to me. For ESPN "highlight heads" he is probably a complete unkown but to NFL gurus he is a quality defensive back. I was simply saying that teams should go after him more than they currently do. I'm sure Nnamdi would'nt mind the challenge.

Re: NNAMDI ASOMUGHA!

As Pacman Jones showed in 06 though, teams not going after you isn't necessarily an indication of your prowess playing the ball, but the inability of your fellow CB's on the other side.

What's the saying - you don't have to outrun a Lion, just the person with you? kinda applies here. Not that Nnamdi isn't good, but why would you pick on him if you don't have to.

Why would I go after him? Because I believe that Nnamdi can be had on some occasions throughout the course of a game. You would be doing your team a disservice if you did not go after him solely because of his reputation.

That being said, I think he is a very good cornerback.

Re: NNAMDI ASOMUGHA!

Yeah, if he's open for the attack you go for it, but when the other corner is not near his level, the safe bet is to look over there first. The safe bet is to gameplan against the weaker CB. And that's what happens. It's not like QB's look at Nnamdi every snap and see their guy completely covered, most often it's just they look at the other CB and their guy open, and go for it, not even needing to test Nnamdi.

So on the same token as not being scared to throw on a CB based on reputation, you don't want to go after him simply to fight against falling for reputation either. Ultimately offenses will try and score the easiest way possible and that's probably not against Nnamdi.

Re: NNAMDI ASOMUGHA!

He's the second highest rated player in Madden?

WEll top 5 at least i'm sure.

97 Overall. Thats repsect.

Every DB can get beat. Champ Bailey has been burned more than you'd think.

But he's elite. Let him go al davis. You can franchise and trade him. He's worth a plethora of picks.

Re: NNAMDI ASOMUGHA!

ANY CB can be had as been shown and the reason why CB play may be down is because you barely breathe on WR without getting penalized.(You can thank Peyton and Tony for this.)

That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if he finishes his career in Oakland. I haven't heard him complain about getting tagged every year, which I assume he doesn't mind because he's averaging top 5 money at his position.
