This is why you shouldn't gamble on sports

One of the main reasons I stopped betting football games back in my mid-20s.

Yesterday, Troy Palamolu's great play to end the Steelers-Chargers game gave Pittsburgh a 17-11 lead and covered the spread.

For some inexplicable reason, the officiating crew - even after reviewing the play - ruled an illegal forward pass on what was CLEARLY a legal lateral. That negated the TD.

While it didn't matter to the outcome of the game, millions of dollars changed hands the wrong way in Vegas and throughout the gambling world. Today, it is in a tizzy apparently.

DON'T BET ON SPORTS! Trust me, those setting the lines know how to take your money. Anyone who tells you they make money gambling are lying. For every game they tell you they hit, there's 3 that killed them.

Plus, human nature is to be conservative when you're up, and to take huge chances when your down. It compounds the losses, and minimizes the gains. Plus, loser pays "juice".

If you're thinking about gambling regularly, don't. And if you are, stop. I've had friends dang near ruin themselves doing this, and I'm thankful I'm not really the sort to get addicted to things like this (I'm a cheapskate when it comes to gambling).

Plus, it makes you cynical. (Even more than me). You start to believe everything is rigged. I've never thought NFL games were rigged, though I suspect the NBA greatly. But when I used to bet, I thought it was suspicious at times.

If you want to gamble, play fantasy football or buy some squares at the office. Leave the Vegas lines alone.

Almost got sucked in myself before coming to this realization. I do think the NFL is suspicious, however, as I have just seen too many instances like above over my 38 yrs. of critically watching games. What saved me is the same thing that keeps me from the casinos....I hate getting nothing for my money. Now if I can shake the video game habit, I'd be golden!

At least you get some bang for your buck when playing video games. you spend $50 to $60 on a game and you get hours of entertainment from it.

By the way, with that play 65 million dollars went from the bookies to the betters, then it all went back to the bookies when the play was reviewed and changed.

Re: This is why you shouldn't gamble on sports

I sometimes will throw $20 on a parlay or two during college football season, or a boxing match, but never consistently. I've had a few friends who really got caught up in gambling and it was sad to see. I can't image throwing hundreds away per week like they did. It was to the point where even a $200 winner meant nothing to them, because they were still in a hole, and they bet those winnings away the next week. I've seen the addiction with my own eyes and it's scary. Especially since it's so easy to do and you can do it anytime.
