I know he was a work horse at Texas, that doesn't mean you can't be overrated as a pro prospect.

Benson is one of the most perplexing runners I've seen in a long time. On a given run he will look like a beast, breaking tackles and punishing defenders for 15-20 yards. Than for rest of the drive, quarter, or even game he looks soft and completely disinterested.

Yep, dead on. The problem with Benson is above the shoulders. He's got ability, but I really think he's going through the paces and collecting a check. He just doesn't seem to really give a crap.

he certainly hasnt endeared himself to Bears nation. Comments like these in this article are a mistake by Ced

Cedric Benson usually bites his tongue when it comes to criticism. Sunday, he couldn't help but lash out.

"I've been hearing a lot of people criticize and talk stuff," he said. "They're not watching the games or the plays. They're just throwing out criticism.

"Do I need to run with more of a burst? No. And [expletive] them. So I guess I'm getting to the hole and walking through the hole, right?"

Benson had a few strong runs Sunday but still ended with just 50 yards on 13 carries with a long run of 12 yards.

"I only got 13 carries today," Benson said. "Ten more and I probably could have got 100. "Eight more and I probably could have got 100."

Benson has been under the microscope ever since the Bears decided to keep him over Thomas Jones. He has rushed for 100 yards just once this season (101 against the Chiefs).

"This is like my rookie year, this is like my first time starting and being 'The Guy.' Nobody said it was just going to all of a sudden take off," he said. "You're not going to have these great games every game. We're struggling here. We're behind, so we can't really run the football. I know it's going to turn. I know it's going to get better for me."

Asked what he could do to improve his numbers and the Bears' running game, Benson referred to the team's offensive philosophy.

"I come out on third downs, I have two downs to do something," he said. "That's not to say we're going to run it on those two downs.

"As an offense, I don't know what we can do."

Individually, Benson said he's done enough to escape some of the scrutiny.

"I don't appreciate all that criticism coming my way," he said. "I can understand if I'm tugging the ball for 18, 20 carries and still getting 50 yards. But what am I doing that's so bad? I don't understand."

it isn't just Benson (who isn't a bust btw)

it's the OL (not the same as last year)
it's Ron Turner

example:

1-10-CHI 40 (14:42) 14-B.Griese pass incomplete short right to 80-B.Berrian.
2-10-CHI 40 (14:38) 32-C.Benson left guard to DET 48 for 12 yards (53-P.Lenon, 42-G.Alexander).
1-10-DET 48 (14:03) 14-B.Griese pass intended for 80-B.Berrian INTERCEPTED by 23-K.Smith [92-S.Rogers] at DET 36. 23-K.Smith to DET 36 for no gain (80-B.Berrian).

yep, benson just got 12 yards, so lets pass it on first down since we "get off the bus running"

there was plenty of those stupid offensive play calls on sunday...

1st down: Benson runs for 8 yards.
2 and 3rd Down? 2 Incomplete passes.

Really?

What is better is that for a couple weeks now I've heard that AP should be starting and running. Better blocker and receiver? Yes, but Benson is a better runner. AP has been part of this system for a while and has usually been 3rd on the depth chart.

running against stacked lines certainly doesnt help. With the way the Bears have been passing, and considering that after last year everyone knows their MO is to run the rock between the tackles and then rock the rock some more...Benson doesnt have much room. The Bears need to pass it more to open up the run game imo
