PES 2010 PC Impressions

I decided to stick with the PC version of the game. My dad brought it back from S.Africa, and I have played just about 25 games since Friday.

My impressions.

Fluidity of gameplay. I mean seriously, this is by far one of the best PES games I have ever played, and that is coming from someone who has played them since WE:J-League for the PS1. The way the players interact and distribute the ball, it's top notch - it's realistic pressure. You have time to build up from the back depending on your opponent.

The graphics are sublime, absolutely gorgeous - with the right video-card, you can really make the PC version of this game shine greatly. I'm playing on 1280x720 with high settings. I will admit, there is a bit of a slowdown here and there, but not enough to disrupt gameplay.

This year's version there really is no easy way to dribble past a defender, you are forced to really use some type of skill move on the D-Pad or L1 or R2. No more stopping and starting, the defenders are smart.

If there was one thing I didn't like about the game would be the fact they removed the option of manual crosses. At least to my knowledge, there is no way to change the controller settings to allow it. So now, crosses are automatically curved in, basically the ball looks like a hot seek missle - it's a good thing the CPU's reaction is solid depending on which team you play against.

I'll have more impressions, I wanted to fire up another game or two before P90X takes over my night life :P

The PC version is great. The gameplay is fluid, the graphics are very nice, and the animations are great, especially in replays. My only gripe is a slight slowdown during rainy matches. Other than that, i don't see a need to get a second footy game this year

Agreed Meazza.

I am, however, still tinkering with my personal preference for graphics. Seem to run into the problem of utter slowdown during replay (manual replay) and any kind of cutscene (foul, goals, etc).

I have gripes as well... in regards to lack of fouls (had 6 the last match in a 20-min per half) and long ball trajectory. The long balls, mainly from free kicks, seem to jump straight into the air - it does not project forward (think golf drive), the trajectory is more of pitching wedge rather than a driver or 2iron.

I got it for both the PS3 and PC...so I will test out both versions once I get them and see which I want to go with.

Ha! Excellent analogy on the free kicks. You and I are a rare breed still hitting 2 irons. Most have moved to the hybrids.

Looking forward to hearing more impressions. I've had every PC version since WE6 and will eventually get this one. Especially after I start seeing the mods and editing tools available.

Any new stadiums this year?

Re: PES 2010 PC Impressions

I have always prefered PES over FIFA until last year.

I have the PC version and I just can't get into it after playing FIFA 10. My biggest reason? The ball seems like it's stuck to players. For example, in FIFA you can make a pass and it will end up no where close to where you wanted because you aimed it incorrectly or put too much or too little power behind it.

In PES, not even close. How many times have I tried to pass it to a guy North East of me and it goes to the guy just North, even though Im not aiming it at that guy.

It's things like that that keep pushing me away from a series I have always loved and would prefer to game on.

Im VERY disappointed, unfortunately.

Hmm... I'm kind of afraid that I'll feel the same way once I get this for pc. Especially now that I've made the switch to all manual controls in FIFA.

2 Irons, crisply into the wind with a cut, lands softly out of bounds, lol.

I know you, Riz will prob be concerned with the lack of fouls, I hope I can work some of my gameplay editing magic though.

You are 100% on about the feeling of "stickiness", however I feel it is more evident with the passing and not so much the dribbling as in 09 and 08. What I will say is yes, compared to FIFA, the manual controls are completely nonexistent - and using the right anolog is something Konami really need to get away from. I think they are waiting to move to the right analog for skill moves, but could refuse just for spite.

The one thing I can say, as someone who had both games (FIFA is gone), is that the gameplay is amazing. You may have direct passes, but you will have a lot of traffic to go through - it's not an easy game, the pressure of tactics and what not make an incredible difference.

Not going to turn it into a PESvFIFA debate, but the one thing I can say is that you will know which is for you based on 'feeling' - something PES has always done so well and FIFA has not is the way the ball feels. It feels SOLID, and not like a balloon.

Fifa feels like you are playing with a volleyball; explosive, but uncontrollable.

PES feels like you are playing with a slightly light rock, that when kicked - will break the opposing keepers teeth.

The solid this is a strange debate. I think the ball trajectory in PES is poor. It's like the ball remains at constant speed and rainbows a lot. That drives me nuts.
