To be fair more is a bit misleading. True there are more teams but it seems that the leagues are the same. Wasn't the French and Dutch leagues already in the game.

It's not like they added 5 new leagues and 100 new teams. Very incremental changes if you ask me. Still more is better.

Re: More Leagues/Teams for PES

Very misleading indeed, and while they may have (a few) more teams in the game, i'd find it hard to believe they have more licensed teams considering they've lost the Spanish Liga license. The only confirmed licensed Spanish clubs atm are Barcelona, Villarreal and Real Madrid. No word on the other 17 clubs yet so that means a potential loss of 17 licensed teams. So the "PES 2009 Bolsters its Licenced Line-up" is completely false based on all the info i've read so far.

Manchester United and Liverpool have simply replaced Newcastle United and Tottenham as England's licensed clubs, so the number of licensed clubs has not increased there. And as JRod said, the French and Dutch leagues were already fully licensed in PES 08, the only new licenses being the promoted teams like Nantes, but they've simply replaced last years relegated clubs.

And a Swedish magazine playtest (see this thread - LINK) revealed that Zenit had REPLACED Bayern Munich as a licensed club (which means there are NO German clubs at all in PES 09), and some of the Nordic clubs were simply replaced by other ones, like Brondby and possibly Aalborg. The playtest summed it up best - In other words, not one licence has been added without at least one other being dropped.

To be fair the playtest was from an early build of the game (when Man U and Liverpool were still fake in the game) so Konami may have a few surprises in store since they've been so secretive about the full list of teams and licenses, and we've seen that at least CL qualifiers Cluj are also in the game, licensed too. But what team did they replace?

Quote:
Konami has also added a number of new national sides to PES 2009, with Northern Ireland amongst those added to the International rosters of respected teams like Netherlands, England and Italy.
Er, Northern Ireland were already in past versions, unless this means they are now licensed in 09...its not exactly clear. That's probably what it means since Italy, England and the Netherlands were all licensed in PES 08, and should be again in 09.

So does this sentence simply mean that some of the existing nation teams are just licensed, or are we finally going to some new ones like reigning African champs Egypt? Or Asian champs Iraq? Or bringing back teams like Latvia, who Konami included after Euro 2004 for PES 5, then promptly discarded them in PES 6 in order to accomodate Israel.

Re: More Leagues/Teams for PES

This Spanish forum provides plenty of pics of Liga clubs in the "Edit Player" menu, revealing which are licensed and which aren't - LINK

It takes a while to load all the pics so here's a list of all the licensed clubs i noticed:

LICENSED SPANISH CLUBS
FC Barcelona
Athletic Club (Bilbao)
Deportivo La Coruna
Real Madrid
Villarreal
Espanyol
RCD Mallorca

TBH, i was afraid only last season's Top 3 were going to be licensed, but its great to see a few of the other bigger clubs are still licensed. Pity there's no 'real' Valencia, Sevilla, Betis or Atletico though

Not to mention how dull the fake kits for the unlicensed teams look...

Honestly, since full editing is back, I don't really even care which teams are licensed. I don't really play online much, and that's really the only mode where you can't use a custom option file.

^ True, even though with having a 360 there's no cheap/easy way to get a user created OF onto my console (the Max Drive software i had never worked, then i sold it...the only other option i've read of is too expensive for the sake of just getting some teams 'licensed'). I'll probably just edit the names of the teams and players where required and leave it at that.

I'll make do with the Italian, French, licensed Spanish and Other European clubs, as well as the 20+ licensed national teams, fine both offline and online.

One more thing, mainly in regards to online, is that the club rosters better be up to date as of the end of the transfer window.

I wouldn't be surprised if Robinho is still at Real Madrid in the retail version.

EDIT: In fact, those pics in the link i provided earlier show Xisco and Coloccini are still both in the Deportivo squad, Zabaleta is still at Espanyol and Robinho is still at Real Madrid...

I have the 360 transfer kit (Datel I think) that uses a memory card that I got for NCAA football before they introduced the EA Locker thing, and that's always worked pretty well for me.

I'm usually not too picky as long as the kits have the correct color scheme and basic design, but it is nice to have all the badges and what not, there's just no way I'd ever sit there and edit them myself. I just hope someone creates a decent OF for the US version, as I imagine the OF's won't be compatible between the US and PAL versions.

Yeah thats what i had (not the Max Drive, that was for the Xbox) but i could never get the software working - the drag and drop system and the directory file was always greyed out. Admittedly i gave up on it quickly, since the only game i was using it for was PES 08 and i didn't really care for the game too much and soon moved onto other 360 games. So i ended up selling the Transfer Kit and my memory unit.

The Xbox Max Drive worked perfectly for me on the other hand (for PES 5).

Meanwhile, i've read over at PESFan that Egypt and Canada have been 'added' to PES 2009...but i wouldn't be surprised if they've simply replaced teams like T&T and Togo...will report back once i get confirmation.

Re: More Leagues/Teams for PES

It turns out the same video that confirmed Chelsea and Arsenal were not licensed and that no Bundesliga teams in the game (LINK - the video Goz posted), actually confirms that both Canada and Egypt are in the game!

See around 1:49-1:51 of the video when the user scrolls past the national team categories. You can clearly make out an Egyptian flag in the Africa section and a Canadian flag in the America section.

However, it also shows Angola aren't in the game anymore...(can't see their flag and it should be on top since they are listed alphabetically). I'm guessing Canada also replaced Trinidad and Tobago but you can't tell from the video.
