Fact of the matter is McGrady is a greater player and could bring more to the team than Odom, doesn't matter if he's playing PF right now or not. The guy will be the scapegoat again once they begin to lose games, and thats the point.

I know the Lakers defensive issues and Lamar's position problem. Im not even talking about all of that, and the topic went south once it got past Altimus and, ec.
Dude, you posted that the Lakers need to trade for McGrady. Then you said that McGrady needs to go to the Lakers.

I disagree on both points because the Lakers are playing the best in the NBA, so in terms of needs they literally rank lowest on the list right now aside from the Celtics. For McGrady, he wants to lead a team to victory, not be third/fourth banana in Kobe's show. He wants to get out of the first round as the leader of a team.

That's not even the same issue as whether or not McGrady is a better player than Odom. Iverson is a better player than Fisher, but that doesn't mean that the Lakers need to trade for him. And if you're going to start theorizing about last year, you're the one all over the place because the Lakers team NOW is different than the one that played the C's. But you're talking about Trady being traded to the Lakers NOW.

Re: LAL need to trade for McGrady

1. The Lakers don't need to do anything. They're the best team in the league, and losing in 6 games in the finals without their starting C and key bench player shouldn't be seen as a horrible problem.

2. With TMac instead of Odom, the Lakers probably win the chip.

3. The Rockets aren't trading TMAC for Odom and co unless they start sucking hard.

Screw chemistry, if you can get TMac for Odom and then a combo of VladRad, Walton, and Sasha/Farmar, you do it. You don't deal any of the 4 real starters, and you need to keep 2 of Ariza, Farmar, and Sasha. I doubt Houston wants that garbage for TMac unless they start tanking.

Of course they dont need him...lol but he could use them at this point of his career because of the coach (needs that psychological prompting at times) and the fact that he has a guy sort of like himself as I said who has been there and done that.

That said of course you dont trade the core and that wasnt something I said do, but good post. Im glad to see others chime in finally.

Trade or no trade though, both will be off the books soon and Free Agents, and Im sure LA would take that chance if given the opportunity if they had to choose between the two.

Re: LAL need to trade for McGrady

You know what I hated about this year's Olympic Basketball Gold Medal team?

They had too many good players.

Why have Carmelo on the court when you could have Battier, who plays defense and sits in a corner on offense and shoots threes? Why have Dwight Howard or Chris Bosh when you could have a role playing big man like Paul Milsap or Al Horford? And who needs Chris Paul... just give me a game manager who plays a little D, like Derek Fisher or Rajon Rondo. Just surround Kobe Bryant with these type of players and the rest is easy.

If I'm a Lakers fan, I don't want all these superstars on my team. Especially if they're team players who play great in the playoffs and would excel as a second option like TMac would.

Wait... what?

Of course you make this trade if you're LA. How is this not common sense?

Tmac would certainly help the LakeShow be even better. The way the Lakers are playing now though I would not mess with anything. I think trading for Artest in the off season would have benefitted them more than getting TMAC. I felt the Lakers needed that then and still need it now-- physical toughness, an edge to them. Kobe has it. Fisher has it. Sasha has a little edge to him. I just don't trust the rest of those guys when things get physical. Artest would help bring that along with giving the Lakers two really good perimeter defenders in kobe and artest. IMO...

^^^I totally agree.

I find it hard to believe that Houston would trade McGrady for Odom straight up. It's difficult for me to even discuss that in hypotheticals.

That would be absurd.

LA doesn't need to trade for anyone.

This is silly.

Stop with all of the exaggerations and please don't inject Kobe into the convo like someone's trying to make him out to be MJ.

Born pretty much gave you all the reasoning as to why the Lakers wouldn't do the trade. The only reason I'm hesitant to do the deal is because I wouldn't want to trade for damaged goods. His injury troubles just seem to be mounting.. it's really sad.

This trade is not as simple as you make it out to be.
