All the Hoop Heads

Lets say you were the GM of a Team and you had this roster.
Keep in mind the current injuries, player potential etc etc...

PG:Hinrich/Telfair/Deiner
SG: Dunleavy/Barry/Afflalo
SF: LeBron/Brandan Rush/
PF: Ben Wallace/Charlie Villanueva/Kris Humphries/Sean Williams
C: Biedrins/Javale Mcgee/

What would you do to improve this team? (does it need improving)?

What are the teams weaknesses?

This team needs a perimeter defender BADLY! They could also use a better PG than Captain Kirk.

However, this team is EXTREMELY athletic in the open court, and perhaps would be better suited with Telfair at the point.

It's playoff team, but I wouldn't expect it to go very far in the playoffs.

Re: All the Hoop Heads

SG is definitely the biggest weakness... Dunleavy has played well in Indiana, but he's not any kind of long-term option there and isn't athletic enough to defend very well. I'd agree on starting Telfair at PG due to the probably high pace of the team, possibly even using Hinrich at SG since he's decently big and can defend the 2 spot. I'd say that the other main weakness aside from perimeter defense would be lack of a back-to-the-basket game. McGee might develop that in the future, but he's pretty shaky right now with anything but dunks, Biedrins has gotten better there as well, but Biedrins and Wallace would be an offensively-limited lineup to say the least.. two ~50% FT shooters as well, which is a huge liability.

My starting 5 would be:

Telfair
Hinrich
LeBron
Villanueva (gives some more offense close to the hoop, spaces the floor, competent rebounder)
Biedrins

Dunleavy and Wallace would be first off the bench...

Re: All the Hoop Heads

Dunleavy might be the perfect compliment to Lebron...when Mike is shooting well that is.

Weakness of this team is at PF.

I would play small with Lebron playing PF a lot. I would run a great deal.

The biggest weakness to me will be rebounding. bierdrins is small and skinny and Ben Wallace is about useless anymore.

Interesting team though. I think it has enough shooting to be interesting (if hinrich can hit a shot).

Re: All the Hoop Heads

Where is the low post scoring on that team? Who's gonna get them point with their back to the basket?

Instead of Rush backing up Bron I'll bring Dunleavy to back him up. Its a young squad but a solid squad that needs low post buckets.

I pretty much agree with this. The only thing I might change is to have Rush start at the 2, and have Hinrich back up both guard spots with Dunleavey primarily backing up the 3, only occasionally sliding down to the 2. Barry and Affalo would play spot minutes depending on the match ups. Bron and Charlie V could be affective low post players if they really committed to getting position on the block more often.

Trades need to be made. Weakness at the 2 and you dont have the scoring down low which means LeBron will have to do mostly all the work. Not a good idea.

You arent a terribly good offensive or defensive team

I think you are set at the 1, 3, and 5.

Draft/Trade for a 2 that can defend the perimeter and of course score. Defense is huge here.

Biedrins and Wallace are good rebounders but I don't like the amount of offense you get out of Villanueva and Biedrins so I'd find a more athletic scoring PF. Defensive precese and shot blocking are a nice addition here but not huge if you cannot manage to get a PF with that along with being a scorer. McGee is far too raw to play yet.

I like the bench, more guards capable of some defense would be good.
