Official 2008 NBA Offseason Trades/FA Signings Thread

This of course is to keep the continual player X has done thing threads into one location. It pretty much dismisses the draft and where Rookies signed but any trades for rooks are here and can be discussed as well.

There are some free agents still on the market, so the list will be update as it happens, but let me know if i missed anything. Im going to keep this thread as a list so we can all keep up with whats going on. I'll let you guys give me the yay or nay on whether you would like to keep the forums busy, or you would like it all in one spot. I'll make the final decision tomorrow. As for now, here is the listing of the transactions made this offseason so far and a list of Free Agents.

The guy definitely has range and can hit a 3 from anywhere. He does have handles, but isn't any good at getting to the hoop. For the Spurs, he'll be a decent 3pt specialist type of guy with the ability to man the point if Parker would to go down

Overview: Mason has put in the work and made himself one of the best values in the league as a hired gun. His shooting from the perimeter, both set and off the dribble, is amongst the best in the league. Mason takes most of his shots from 3-point land, but has become deadly using the pick-and-roll game to get off one and two dribble attempts.

Strengths: Mason is an excellent scorer off the bench. He has just about every shot necessary to impact a game offensively when he’s got it going, mostly from the perimeter. He is one of the better shooters in the league at making challenged jump shots. Washington likes to use him as a big guard for his size on offense, which makes it easier for him to get off clean looks at the basket.

Defensively, Mason is a pretty solid man defender-especially when matched up against back-up PGs. His length and size are a problem for opponents and he keeps them working on the other end of the court because of his constant motion. Mason is good at pressuring jump shots and doesn’t give his man a lot of open looks. Washington uses him very effectively in his role, which increases his effectiveness on that end of the court.

Weaknesses: Mason isn’t much of a driver, so when his shot isn’t falling he doesn’t give you much offensively. He rarely gets to the free throw line. He isn’t a playmaker for others, so the offense really has to find him in order to impact the game. He can also be somewhat of a chucker, forcing shots even when he’s not hitting.

Mason’s high energy approach to the game limits the length of time he can be effective defensively. The longer he goes in a game the less aggressive he becomes on that side of the ball. Surprisingly, he doesn’t get taken advantage of that frequently as his initial intensity usually softens his opponent’s aggression.

Wizards Sign Dee Brown To Offer Sheet

Washington Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld announced today that the team has signed restricted free agent point guard Dee Brown to an offer sheet.

Per team policy, terms of the contract were not released. The Utah Jazz will now have seven days to match the Wizards’ offer under the terms of the NBA’s Collective Bargaining Agreement.

“Dee is a player who can bring quickness and energy to our team” said Grunfeld. “We like that he gives us depth and a different look at the point guard position.”

Brown (6-0, 185) played last season for Galatasaray Café Crown in Turkey, where he averaged 12.3 points per game. He was originally drafted by Utah with the 46th overall pick of the 2006 NBA Draft and averaged 1.9 points and 1.7 assists in 49 games for the Jazz during the 2006-07 season. Brown is a product of the University of Illinois, where he finished his four-year career as the winningest player in school history (114 games, 114-23 overall record) and helped lead the Illini to the NCAA Championship Game as a junior in 2005.
My man Dee Brown!
