They have very, very similar stats. Paul Pierce has made it to a Finals but he's also been part of a last-place team. Paul Pierce has a much cleaner reputation of being a warrior but statistically, they are very, very similar. In my opinion, neither one is on track to be a HOF. They would have to either win a couple of rings or raise their play a decent amount.
.
Maybe I'm looking out for my guy but I think if Carter gets 2,000 points a few more seasons than he is a LOCK for the hall-of-fame.

And to BTB, Pierce is not the better all-around player in than Shawn Marion, the guy fills every line in the stat sheet and goes beyond that with his defense. I don't see Paul Pierce averaging 22pts, 1.7 blocks, 2 steals, 2 assists, and 12 boards. Shawn Marion is the definition of an all-around player

I just think Pierce is as talented as Marion in every facet of the game, and a much more talented scorer. I guess Marion has the edge in rebounding, but that's it IMO.

I think the Celtics are running out of available jersey numbers - and Paul Pierce's number will definitley be retired. HOF? Hard to tell, he's got the numbers but not the impact imo.

Pierce's number will definitely be retired. If they win this series, he'll go down as one of the best Celtics to ever play in the uniform, instead of one the best Celtics to never win a title.

If I had to choose Hall of Famers drafted from 1992-2000(Shaq/Duncan era) it would look like this:

Locks: Tim Duncan, Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowitzki, Shaquille O'Neal, Alonzo Mourning, Jason Kidd, Allen Iverson, Chris Webber, Kevin Garnett, Elton Brand, Rasheed Wallace

Debatable: Tracy McGrady, Paul Pierce, Vince Carter, Penny Hardaway, Chauncey Billups, Baron Davis, Grant Hill (although he is a definite IMO. Top 5 player on this list in his prime.), Ray Allen

Good but not HOF: Antawn Jamison, Shawn Marion(yet), Jamal Mashburn, Allan Houston, Antonio McDyess, Stephon Marbury, Eddie Jones, Juwan Howard, Rip Hamilton, Andre Miller, Jerry Stackhouse, Eddie Jones, Michael Finley, Sam Cassell

I don't know. When I think of Pierce, HOF doesn't jump out at me. I think if he gets a title if will certainly help his resume.

You forgot Nash on the locks list. If Brand gets in for mostly what he did in college, Hill will as well, especially for being part of the most famous basketball play ever.

I was mostly discussing HOF credentials on what they did in the NBA. Elton Brand is a consistent 20/10 guy and was true franchise player. He also has a good 4-5 years to pad his numbers. By the time it's all said and done, I feel like he will definitely be a lock.

I personally think Grant Hill is a lock though. Probaly the best all around player in the game in his prime.

Who knows?

I don't really see it. 1 All NBA team and 1 playoff appearance? I mean, he's had some bad luck, but if you don't include his 2006 season, he's not even in the picture.

Hell, I don't know if he's even been a top 10 PF in the Duncan era.

I'd put him behind Duncan, Dirk, JO, KG, CWebb, and maybe Bosh and Boozer. Count the tail end of Malone's career and Amare as a 4, and he's at #10. On NBA career alone, I don't think Brand is even close.
