Same with Nash without Amare. Both were huge accomplishments, and if the Rox would have claimed the #1 seed, I'd have a real tough time making an argument against Mac as an MVP candidate.

Re: Kobe Selected as 2008 MVP

I still think the award should of went to LeBron based on it being the Most Valuable Player and not the Best Player on the Best Team Award. It shouldn't be based on the criteria of being more of a team award. Teams like the Lakers hold it together when Kobe is out... The Cavs without LBJ is like watching a deer in headlights.

LeBron's team was fourth in the East.

It's all the criteria as a WHOLE.

What's them being 4th in the East have anything to do with anything? Might as well drop the P from the MVP if it's going to continue to be a team award. The award should be based on the single statistically best player of the season. LBJ is pulling 30/8/7/2/1 a game and there's really not been any match for those kind of numbers this season.

Cavs without LeBron is a 15 win team. Lakers without Kobe is still a .500 or higher team.

Like I said, it's a combination of ALL the factors, but being fourth in the East is a pretty big detractor in my opinion.

And how is Gasol's presence somehow a knock against Kobes candidacy anyway, while having a beast of a PF/C tandem...and a healthy Peja...is no knock on Paul? Kobe was around .500 with guys injured, but thats real easy to point to when the Hornets haven't had ANY significant injuries whatsoever this year. Scroll back one seaon though, and we see that the great CP3 and his Hornets were a lottery squad with their guys were injured. Health makes a huge difference on ANY team. Bottom line, Kobe is judged differently, on all sides.
Without Gasol the Lakers were playing .500 ball. Let the Hornets acquire an another all star PF and this dicussion is warped to one end of the spectrum.

While im not knocking any team for being healthy or not, I wish people would stop it with all of this kobe is a victim crap. I have no qualms with Kobe as I stated, he changed this year after his baby incident this summer, but the writers reasoning was far too foggy this year and they had no issues making it known.

All of this injury stuff wasn't even the same as the Suns becuase they were projected by all of the media to miss the playoffs completely.

Truth of the matter is, Paul is more responsible for the elevation of his teams play than Kobe was of his teammates.

That's a really stupid argument. Of course Chris Paul is going to do better with his entire team healthy than Kobe will do with his next 2 best players playing a combined 62 games. .500 ball with his other starters being Fisher, Odom, Kwame, and Walton is not all that bad, especially since the losses were to the Suns, Spurs, Mavs, Cavs, and Pistons. Take West and Peja off of the Hornets and they aren't beating any of those teams.

The Lakers without Kobe are the Grizzlies. Both teams would suck without Paul or Kobe.

I didnt know the Grizzlies had Lamar Odom and Phil Jackson.

Still doesn't take away from what was stated.

I would rather have Rudy Gay and Mike Miller over Odom and any other non-Kobe/Bynum Laker.
