Why is that a farce? You have a very close MVP race and a rare event in which the two candidates have a bit of a showdown for 1st place. You can disagree with it, but calling it a farce belies the obvious drama in the circumstances.

Brandon, no I don't. It's more of what I've gathered watching TV and listening to radio, especially around my area....

But how many of those guys are voters? I guess I just seems to me that people are saying that quite a few voters gave the MVP to Kobe as a lifetime achievement award without any real evidence that that is true.

Seems like it. The argument seems a little redundant, because it's "well, I think he deserved it, but I don't like the reasons that some of the sports media members used to give it to him". So what? A guy who you think deserves the award won it...open and shut case.

I could tell you that some of them were voters and that includes some of the ESPN guys like Chris Broussard for one example.

Easily. The Hornets were holding down the #1 spot and the Lakers couldn't get above playing .500 ball without Pau Gasol.

You don't base a season award on one game. It didn't happen when Nash and company beat out The Mavs in the last 2 head to head matchups and noone used that excuse then.

Main thing is the criteria was swayed here and there throughout the season and they couldn't make up their minds. Alot of writers seemed like they were looking for reasons to pass it on to Kobe at the time LA wasn't up top.

Screw the drama of the situation, just pick one guy based on a certain criteria and stop chaging it to fit your bias. They flip flopped this year more than almost any other year.

I don't know how many are the voters, but if some in the general media is saying stuff like this, who's to say that the writers and stuff who are actual voters aren't thinking the same thing?

Like I said, I have no problem with him getting the award, but if the reasoning involves anything prior to 07-08, then I don't think that's right.

I agree that you shouldn't base a season award on one game but the Dallas/Phoenix end of season matchups didn't decide the number one seed in the West. I can see an argument where someone thought that it was just splitting hairs choosing between Kobe and Paul and their justification with going with one over the other was whoever's team got the number one seed would get their vote.

Weren't a healthy Lakers squad holding down the #1 seed before Gasol got there, and weren't they still hovering in the top half of the West when Gasol went down for a stretch?

And how is Gasol's presence somehow a knock against Kobes candidacy anyway, while having a beast of a PF/C tandem...and a healthy Peja...is no knock on Paul? Kobe was around .500 with guys injured, but thats real easy to point to when the Hornets haven't had ANY significant injuries whatsoever this year. Scroll back one seaon though, and we see that the great CP3 and his Hornets were a lottery squad with their guys were injured. Health makes a huge difference on ANY team. Bottom line, Kobe is judged differently, on all sides.

This is why I'm simply puzzled at the Rox continued success post-Yao injury. They were close to clinching the first seed..
