do you think LA would have even been a playoff team this year without Kobe?...They certainly wouldnt have been the best team in the west during the season.

lifetime achievement award or not, Kobe deserves it THIS year imo.

I dont think that was the question ZB. It's the way they voted and the lifetime achievement crap.

Saying you should've gotten it 3 years ago doesn't mean jack compared to this year. I don't think LA would be a playoff team with no Kobe but you could say that about alot of teams and their respective star players.
How about NO with no Chris Paul?

What I do think though is that Pau Gasol saved LA some heartache and put them over the top, that's for sure.

This all of course takes nothing from Kobe, I saw him change this year, even if he did act like a whiny baby this summer, but give him the award based on his play, and cut the crap out about years ago and how he couldn't beat other players out. Give me a break.

Duh. Typically when you're without your starting center and your 6th or 7th man, it'll be helpful to get an All Star caliber player.

yea good points

lol i still dont really know what the criteria is...I dont think most of the voters do either. I guess there isnt really a defined one.

...but Kobe is the best player on the planet, AND his team is the best in the league. Under any criteria, that certainly = MVP imo

It's not an easy decision process. Here's my outlook:

-CP3 deserved the award slightly over Bryant/James
-If I was starting a team I'd take James or Bryant over ANYONE in the league

point guards have the advantage when it comes to this award imo. If a main criteria is making your teammates better, that is the job description of the point guard position.

They have the ball in their hands every possession and a good one will be able to affect the game more than any other position on the court.

Most point guards dont usually elevate the play and record of their team so dramatically with the increase of their own play.

That's one reason why CP's historic season meant so much. It doesn't come around often... Not even in the last decade

I'd venture to say Boston was the best team in the NBA this regular season.

True enough though, criteria changes each year and the writers pick on their own biases.

I'm not arguing with your point about Paul's great season, I agree that Paul had a phenomenal season but I am addressing your last statement about it not coming around in the last decade. Both Nash and Kidd had incredible effects on their teams in their first years on PHX and NJ. Phoenix went from 29-53 and second to last in the West to 62-20 and #1 in the West in Nash's first season in PHX. Kidd took the Nets from 12th in the East at 26-56 to #1 in the East with a 52-30 record.

agreed, and the point still stands.

Neither of those guys scored 20/10 for a season although nash was close and did get MVP. Cp's season was even better

Too bad I was actually asking an honest question, people. Thanks to B13 for responding to my question properly.
