Exactly.

I would have voted for Lebron or Paul, but then again, I'd have voted Kobe first the last two years.

And there will be a day when LeBron and Chris Paul win an MVP award by screwing over a more deserving up-and-coming player who hasn't gotten his merit badges either. It's cyclical.

This isn't uncommon or really a tragedy, since Kobe finished 3rd in MVP voting two seasons ago while scoring the most points in the NBA in 20 years.

Lets not go this route again please. LeBron's season crapped all over Kobe's that year. All Kobe did was take over 200 more shots which resulted in 2 more ppg and a mediocre team record.

No matter how you slice it, Paul was more than deserving and in my opininon even moreso, but Kobe did merit the award too although the excuses the writers gave was crap.

When was the last time someone was given the MVP as a lifetime achievement award?

I think the more appropriate question is, "When was the last time we had an MVP award winner that we haven't bitched about?"

Then again, I'm not sure anyone is in the position to question any selection based upon the 1000 different criteria that exist for being the MVP. Nash won it two consecutive years in a row because he "was the most valuable to his team." Dirk was the best player on the best regular season team. KG won it for the same reason as Dirk. Jordan won it because he was the best player in the game. Kobe is the best player on the planet to have never won an MVP award, and so on. Of course, that doesn't give enough credit to Kobe, who's the best player in the game, and is what the award is synonymous for.
