Probably so, which is unfortunate.

Shame on you going after Bea. She has wide shoulders and a great wingspan.

OR maybe the vast majority simply felt that Kobe played great basketball this year, showed alot of maturity by tailoring his game a bit to better accomodate the system, and in doing so led the same bums he was trying to get away from to the top seed in the West.

It is a possibillity.

Besides, total votes don't indicate how close the two were in each voters mind. The disparity doesn't neccesarily mean that Kobe somehow got some undeserved BS benefit. They were extremely close, but Kobe is still obviously the better overall player, and over 82 games that "being better" directly translates to more value to his team, all other things being about even. That's a much bigger reason than the sympathy votes folks are trying to make them out to be...

Good post. A few guys have already gone on record as saying the #1 seed was the deciding factor in a close race.

He had a great year, yup, I agree

Showed maturity? After his his teammates proved him wrong yup I agree

Taloring his game, by passing the ball? I give him credit for a great year, but not for passing the ball like you're supposed to do. If that's the case LeBron would be the King.. whoops he already is, but he only got 1 vote.

Led bums, Kobe's words say different, Kareems mentoring says different, and without Pau Gasol this wouldn't be possible, so please stop it with calling his team bums when they are far from it.

Better player overall does not = MVP

I disagree that Kobe Bryant's own jump in production was the reason his teams success jumped, and you can take his own words on that becuase he obviously felt the same way.

Yes the race was closer than the votes, the same people who voted were the same one's who brought the sympathy talk and lifetime achievement talk into the discussion.. and that is what it wreaks of in the voting

The votes smell of the media's talk of lifetime achievement, sorry.

It's not a knock on Bean, he did great afterall, but the voting process was pathetic.

-Why do you keep bringing up Gasol when the Laker were #1 in the West BEFORE Gasol got there?

-BTW, without David West, Paul as MVP "wouldn't be possible" either would it? Why does having good teamates only apply to Kobe. I think I've asked this before..help me out here.

-Kobe didn't need a jump in production...he needed less production. His 'jump' was of the "less is more" variety. Please don't just ignore that. Although his contribution didn't come in the form of bigger numbers, PJ and many others have called this his best all-around season as a pro. And there was no "after they proved him wrong" lol...he played unselfishly from day one this year.

-Another thing about "proved him wrong"...You are right, in hindsight, the Lakers cast is not as bad as advertised. But...were you saying the Lakers roster was built for the top of the West before the season started? Was Kobe? Was anybody, anywhere? Only Kupchak. Before the season the Lakers were universally considered inadequate. Everyone was wrong.

-And since the voting process has always been pathetic, why has this ambiguous criteria thing just now become a major issue for you? I don't recall any complaints in the past...
