Are you really denying that?

Re: 2012 Mid-Season Awards

Weaver moved into my honorable mention spot after his last start, knocking Verlander to third.

Keep in mind, I compiled this before his previous start.

If he hadn't missed three starts earlier in the year, he would probably be at #1 for me, but Sale is still there.

It's either sabremetrics or nothing to some people.

Homerism aside, I still think Cutch is the NL MVP of the finest half. He's hitting out of his mind.

Re: 2012 Mid-Season Awards

Oops...didn't realize a Weaver discussion was going on in here. I just posted this in a the game thread, but Weaver has made 7 of his 15 starts against the likes of Min, Oak, San Diego, and KC. He has not shown up against the two 'offenses' he faced, Texas and NYY. I'd like him to shut down the good offenses before we crown him.

He's never pitched well in Texas. Ever. The NYY game is the game he was hurt in . Can't really hold that against him.

Re: 2012 Mid-Season Awards

I like the Sale pick, but I doubt he'll have the chance to win the award because I'm sure the White Sox will shut him down. He only threw 70 innings last year, and is already over 100 this season. If they're not in the hunt, I don't see him going over 150.

Now I just have to find someone in my fantasy league that's willing to take him in a trade

If the Pirates keep this up he should definitely be in the conversation.

That Showalter for MOY pick isn't going to happen either, the wheels are already falling off the Orioles bus.

Heath Bell is 5th in the NL in saves, tied for 10th in all of baseball. And he has an ERA over 6 and a WHIP over 1.80.

Then why is he giving up the second highest line drive rate of his career? High line drive rate + low BABIP = Luck. Does that mean he isn't elite? Absolutely not, but he has had better luck than normal...unless you believe he is able to control the hitters to hit the ball hard right at his defense.

The use of "advanced" stats as the sole means to judge a player has gone way past old. Particularly for an award like the Cy Young.
Who does this? Especially for the Cy Young. It was just four years ago the biggest determining factor in winning the award was something as worthless as Wins.
