Is it just me, or are there a lot of statues around Miller Park? Aaron, Yount, the guys that died while building the stadium, and now Selig. It gets less special the more you do it. That said, he does deserve something. Definitely.

Next should be Pauly Molitor, but I understand why Yount went ahead of Molitor.

I understand the hate for Selig the Commish, but don't understand the hate for Selig the owner that brought Milwaukee back to baseball and kept in a small market.

I dont think most people realize how important Selig is to baseball in MWK.
If it wasnt for him the Brewers would not even exist.

Wisconsin is really good at keeping secrets b/c there must be another reason to build a statue for him other than his ownership and the fact he brought baseball to Milwaukee.

Nobody will remember Selig for his efforts toward the Brewers organiztion...just his controversial and arguably moronic actions (or in some cases lack of) regarding:
Steriods
All-star game
Interleague
Unevened divisional play
Pro-longed postseason
Montreal/Washington
Steinbrenner's reinstatement
Possible Contraction
WBC (yet to be determined but so far useless)
The only good things Selig has endorsed: influx of new stadiums, divsion realignment & divisional play/wild-card round in the playoffs. The generations following won't remember the owner Selig, just the maligned commissioner Selig.

This might be their way of helping people remember the good he did when he was the owner.

Maybe Milwaukee fans know, but do the existing statues have plaques, any information regarding their impact on the franchise?

Yes, YP, there is a plaque near the bottom of the statues to explain the benefits of the person that is on the statue. This will help future generations from now to understand what Selig meant to the state of Wisconsin and the Brewers.

If you are from Wisconsin(majority are that attend Miller Park except for when Cub fans come up) then you will tell your children and grandchildren about Selig the owner. The big secret is that he kept a small town market team in Milwaukee for the last 40 years. Before that, the Boston Braves came to Milwaukee and they were the Milwaukee Braves. Hank Aaron, Warren Spahn, Johnny Sain, Eddie Mathews, a few Hall of Famers. In the early to mid 60's, the Milwaukee Braves moved to Atlanta to become the Atlanta Braves, leaving Milwaukee without a pro baseball team until Bud Selig bought the bankrupt Seattle Mariners in 1970 and the team became what is known today as the Milwaukee Brewers.

That is why the present owner of the Brewers is dedicating a statue is honer of Bud Selig, the owner.

Only people outside the state of Wisconsin won't be able to separate owner vs commish.

Just one correction because you obviously know your history, but it was the Seattle Pilots, not the Mariners.
