MLB Winter Meetings

Anyone ever been? I'm probably going next month to network and try to get a job lined up since I graduate in December.

I wanted to go back in 2003 when I think it was in Minnesota. But that was when I wanted to work in baseball. Don't care much now.

I think we have a member or two that have been there. One of them works in minor league baseball. Names escape me.

I'll be there along with the rest of our staff. Yakima Bears Baseball, Single-A affliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

First time going so it's going to kick ***!!!

If I go, which its looking likely, then I need to meet up with you and meet some of the media relations people of your club.

Baseball people (especially GM's and Agents) hate having kids nag them about jobs/resumes during the Winter Meetings when they're trying to get work done.

The resumes just go in the trash bin anyways.

Media Relations people?!

We're easily Top 5 smallest markets in Single-A. There are 5 of us full-time. We all are the media relations, corporate relations, ticket sales, and marketing execs LOL.

Is the play-by-play guy coming back for the '10 season?


If I go, I'm bringing 50+ resume tapes with me. A friend of mine who does play-by-play for Southern Illinois football/basketball told me to go to Indy for the meetings next month.

That's a great idea. We hired our radio announcer for the 2007, 2008 season through the Winter Meetings.

As far as our radio announcer, we're unsure yet. It was his first MiLB gig (he had done independent ball for 2 years) and now he's calling football for a syndicated radio outlet and doing ACC/Big East basketball for the same station. Personally, I doubt he comes back.

The thing with our team is that we are short season (only play 76 games). Most announcers want to be able to do a full April-Sept. slate of games whereas we only play June-September.

Well I'm just looking for that first job. Gotta start somewhere even its only half a year or so. Yakima wouldn't be bad for me though. One of my best friends moved to Richland about 5 months ago and its just little over an hour from Yakima. So at least I'd have a friend in the area lol.
