Who is the best pure hitter in the league?

Manny
Pujols
Ichiro
A-Rod

Some ESPN analysts seem to think that it's Manny. I guess you can make an argument for either one of these guys. All the other things aside, you won't see anybody put the bat on the ball as consistently or smoothly as Ichiro. His batting average and OBP has been nothing short of stellar throughout his career thus far.

If you are thinking Tony Gwynn/ Wade Boggs-type 'pure' hitter, I will submit Joe Mauer. Otherwise I gotta go with Albert Pujols.

It's Pujols and I don't even think it's debatable. He's the active leader in batting average and slugging percentage and he'll be passing Helton as the active leader in OBP at some point during this season.

Okay, so you guys are talking about clean players. I thought you mean someone with a terrific plate approach, great plate recognition, and consistent solid contact (preferably with decent pop).

Basically, a guy that has a 2:1 HR+BB:K ratio in a year with a .300+ average is a great pure hitter.
