It's Hal's team now..

Today, power of the Yankees was handed from George Steinbrenner to his son Hal. Seems to be a good thing too, as Hank spouted off a bit too much last year.

Anyway, even though I am not a Yankee fan, I actually like to say George, while being a nutty guy, seemed to care about his team - and that it more than I can say about a few current owners..

Yeah at least George was entertaining and Hal is even moreso. So long as the Yanks continue to overspend and not win championships i'm happy

Hal is the quiet guy who actually has most of the power. Hank is the loud blowhard that we see in the media all the time.

Yea, Hank is not really involved much at all, he just talks to the media and tries to act like George did, but he doesn't really have the power to do anything. I know I read he wasn't at the all star game, and rarely if ever attended real games, or went to meetings or anything.

It's funny that originally, the power was going to go to one of the sons-in-law, before Hank and Hal's names ever came up. One wound up divorcing Steinbrenner's daughter, and the other one, I forget what happened to him.

I heard that too. There was even a press conference with the Son in Law where they were showing off models for the new Yankee Stadium. The guy made some headlines by saying the Yanks would no longer spend so extravagantly and instead focus on building the team from the ground up in the vein of what Gene Michael did when George Steinbrenner was banned from MLB for a few years.

Re: It's Hal's team now..

This announcement has given people who don't like Hank a lot of fodder. Just this morning on WFAN's midday show, Joe and Evan basically said this means that Hal is the real "power" and "authority" of the organization, while Hank is just "comic relief".

At the start of the season, ESPN the Magazine had an article on Hank, about how he was following in his father's footsteps and what not, and now it turns out he isn't even the main man. LOL
