Hot Stove League

Figured I'd start a thread where we can discuss all the trades, signings, a rumors for the offseason.

Already have the first trade as the Marlins have traded Mike Jacobs to the Royals for Leo Nunez.

Re: Hot Stove League

This is actually a fantastic trade for the Royals. Great pickup. If Jacobs can continue to make contact with the ball he would be a potential All-Star.

He has a .299 OBP last year. Jacobs isn't very good.

Yeah, Jacobs has one tool period and that's power. I'm not taking a .299 obp on my team for 32 homers. I like what the Marlins did here, overselling on his home run stat.

Re: Hot Stove League

He just needs to continue to improve his eye at the plate, that's all. When he hits the ball, he hits it hard.

The potential is there. Watch the kid play. With more work, he will be worth keeping an eye on.

Yea I remember a stretch in August where he was like 0-30, but I kept trotting him out there on my fantasy team hoping for homers and RBIs.

Which is what KC will do and will suffer the same fate as me.

Since KC seems to have a better track record of drafting major league talent rather than acquiring it trade/FA I'm gonna say bust on this one, but I guess he's a better option than Ross Gload or Billy Butler.

Re: Hot Stove League

Jacobs did suffer from a ridiculously low BABIP this year, which dropped his average lower than it should have been, and thus made his OBP even more painful than usual. That said, he just turned 28 years old and he's unlikely to make any significant strides in the discipline department. Basically he is what he is, an average offensive first baseman (not sure how he stacks up defensively).

Nunez isn't anything particularly special himself. He got incredibly lucky in the homerun department this year for a guy that's not exactly a groundball machine, which led to a low ERA that's a bit of a fluke.

Going by +/- he was the worst defensive first baseman in the league.
