2K targets a sim audience. Someone who wants realism in their games. There just isn't a huge market for fans of those games. Companies can make more money targeting 12 year old kids who want to run around with Mike Vick all day in Madden. It's the same problem games like High Heat had. HH was never able to outsell other baseball games, but was miles ahead of them in realistic gameplay.

The quality of a game should not be judged on how many copies it sells. The copies it sells is a product of quality, but also of brand awareness and overall marketing. If the world worked the way you state, Spider-Man 3 would have collected a ton of Oscars this year.

You're stretching my point further than it should go. If the games were all that great it would appeal to a bigger audience. I like playing baseball mogul, but I'm not going to call it a great game, I think it's fun, but I don't think it's great. I don't think it can be considered great unless it has a huge appeal. If I and my 3 friends think band A is great, and no one else does, does it make it great?

Let me explain it this way: 2k people are stretching all over the internet to get people to vote for this great game, while TSB fanboys from the site do not seem to be doing the same thing. If College Hoops was light years better, you wouldn't have to go elsewhere for votes. Just because you and a handful of other people that think like you believe it is a great game doesn't mean it is a great game. Personally I think Final Fantasy is the most overrated franchise in gaming and the games are boring, but thousands of people and squaresoft as a whole proves me wrong.

I love the whole Tecmo Bowl series as much as any red blooded football loving male...but quite honestly...College Hoops is the single greatest SPORTS title ever made.

2k has accomplished something EA couldn't match in a million years of "exclusive license" ownership.

Obviously, gameplay is the heart and soul of ANY title, and I dare you to find a better AI than the one in Hoops on any title on any system. After the patch, this game can literally fit any person's tastes on any difficulty level. Why? Because THESE SLIDERS ACTUALLY WORK!

The ability to upload rosters, edit EVERYTHING, etc. brings the Hoops community together as a family to really help improve the game in every way. Look at dkrause's insanely accurate rosters..right down to the freaking rotations!

For realism buffs like myself..this takes it to a whole different level.


Well sports gamers...how about atmosphere?! You want atmosphere?!!!

How about a preseason TV show with Greg Gumbel and Clark Kellog. How about WEEKLY College Basketball Specials all season long updating the season with insight, videos, talk about the big games of the past week and the big games coming up. How about a SELECTION SUNDAY SPECIAL, which as a 30 year old man, I get as excited as a 12 year old boy when its time to watch this, check out if I made the tourney, where I'm playing, etc.

How about a Coaching Carousel that has the REAL coaches moving around the nation just as in real life. Watch Roy Williams retire at North Carolina and Billy Donovan get the job after he leaves. Watch Wake lose it's coach and have SIX players transfer after he's fired. (This actually happened in my legacy).

THAT is immersion!! THAT is atmosphere!!

THAT is why this is the single greatest achievement in sports gaming E-V-E-R. And that's why I'll be playing this game every year until 2k gets back in the ring for another.

A masterpiece.

Revolutionized the game, sure - was the first NBA superstar even. But played in an era where were he playing today he would not even be in the D-league ....

I agree with all your points. However, it's not fair for games that came from the NES (ie Baseball Stars and TSB), because they couldn't have possibly had these things. It's also not possible to compare these two games objectvely given the hardware limitations and the different time-frames. It's not even a best sports games contest anymore...it's a battle to get 2K the most possible votes, regardless of the game.

ATTN: Mods - If there is going to be another poll like this in the future, it might not be a bad idea to set some ground rules. I don't want to limit voter's choices, but this is a pretty good example of how things can backfire.

You're reading too deep. I know who Mikan is...you should go Google...and find a better example like ummm....Wilt Chamberlain. Someone who would quantify the statement of being arguably the greatest of all time.

Any argument is pointless anyway at this point simply due to the way this contest has been manipulated.

I thought of Wilt, but wanted someone closer to the Ruth era, pre-integration, where they revolutionized the game for their time, but by today's standards would not be much more than a blip on the radar.
