BTW, I voted for Tecmo Super Bowl. If it makes it to the finals against NFL 2K5, that's going to be a tough call for me.

Great run CH. But this is where it ends. You may have gotten TB, but you're not getting by TSB.

I'll say it again.... First football game to include:

both NFL and NFLPA licenses (the game had real players and team colors/logos)
Injuries (and substitutions to go along with them)
Varying player performance (a condition that actually affected how they played)
League leader tracking (all rolled up into one nice series of screens - and sortable by each stat!)
Editable playbook - a wide range of plays to choose from
Onside kicks (I'm pretty sure it was the first, anyway)

Add to that the now legendary cutscenes, and you have a timeless classic. Oh...and did I mention that you got all that in 1991??

No, it's not the greatest football game ever. It's the greatest SPORTS game ever. It's been 17 years since it came out and I can still have more fun with it today than I could ANY sports game. It epitomized what video games are supposed to be - fun. Graphically and AI wise, it is not as good as the games out now. But NOTHING compares in the fun factor. To me, that's what it boils down to - fun. Fun covers up the imperfections and allows you to focus on the game and not the flaws.

Oh yeah, I forgot one other thing TSB had, one that started me on a lifelong addiction - the ability to watch the CPU play out a game, controlling both teams.

And coach mode! God, it's all flooding back now...

Ive had great fun with a lot of different sports games, but Im thinking "best" also includes things like; depth, challenge, and not being utterly ridiculous.

My favorite game 15 years ago vs. my favorite game now. Have to go with Tecmo SB though. I bet I played 100 seasons with that game. Some good times to say the least.

College Hoops is the deepest, most realistic, and most complete sports game I have ever played. Nothing else has been in my 360 for the last 4 months, and I have never been as committed to any game as I ever had with this one. Tecmo Bowl was solid, but is more of a cultural icon that a great game IMO.
