Maybe, probably. But that's just the way it is.

Punchout is great, and definitely one of the marquee games for the NES. But NFL 2k5 is something else. I agree with Spectre, it is a game that set a benchmark that others still haven't hit yet.

I was never that high on Punch-Out, and 2K5 brought so many things to the table for a football game. It had it's flaws, but it is the gold standard for a complete product in the football game market.

I loved Punchout but NFL 2k5 was the full package. I'm not much of a football fan but 2k5 had me playing football. The last football game I have played regularly.

We will never know, but it would have been talked about as the best 20 dollar football game until the end of man kind. lol I doubt any other football game matches that price.

Re: Elite Eight: Mike Tyson's Punchout vs. NFL 2k5

Just clicked the link and watched the Punchout vid - first time I've ever heard of that game.

So what's the joke here? THAT game vs a modern classic like 2K5? You have got to be kidding. That's like asking which is the better Batman series: the laughable, cheesy old TV show, or Batman Begins with Christian Bale.

So where's the camera? This is actually an episode of Punk'd or something like that, right?

LOL, no kidding. And who others won't and apparently have no intention of hitting at any point during this new-gen cycle of console systems.

Looking in the context of the years they were released, NFL 2k5 was so good and groundbreaking that it lead to EA acquiring the exclusive NFL license as the only way to compete with the far superior game. I'm sorry but in no context does Punchout, or really any other game top that.

Re: Elite Eight: Mike Tyson's Punchout vs. NFL 2k5

I don't know how anyone can say 2K5 was a complete game. It took many steps backwards from 2K4. The cpu QB AI was horrendous (worse than NCAA 08 and a gamebreaker for me), the DB AI was lousy, stamina was ruined from 2K4, the momentum animation was garbage, screen passes were completely screwed up when they were done well in 2K4, the timing on counter plays was bad compared to 2K4 among other things. 2K4 was also MUCH better out of the box unlike 2K5 which required tremendous slider changes and roster edits to play correctly. While 2K5 did improve some areas and had tremendous presentation they took so many backwards steps from 2K4 I simply think of 2K5 as a flawed game and neither a complete one or a classic. 2K5's disappointment actually forced me to buy Madden '05. There is no way I can vote 2K5 ahead of an addicting classic game like Mike Tyson's punchout.
