Rayo never stood a chance today as Sporting Gijon put 4 past them en route to claiming all 3 points. Guerrero and his compatriots were unable to muster any form of attack.

Rayo fought valiantly but in the end it wasn't enough as Sevilla was able to claim all three points at the Ramon Sanchez estadia. Mali international Kanoute started the scoring in the 11th before on loan forward, Danny Pacheco was able to bag the equalizer twenty minutes later. After halftime Sevilla struck in the 60th before Pacheco bagged his brace 3 minutes later in ther 63rd. The Vallecano hopes were dashed in the '73rd by substitute Negredo who provided the match winner in front of the Sevilla faithful.

Madrid neighbors Rayo were Karim'd in the 1st leg of the Copa del Quarterfinals today. French International Karim Benzema netted a hat in only 49 minutes to all but put Real in the semifinals. Brazil legend Kaka scored early but it was fellow countrymen Marcelo that will lead the highlights with this volley from damn near Rio:

With the matchup all but decided, Rayo got an early boost from Kevin Guerrero 4 minutes into the match. Guerrero's curled shot beat Iker Casillas far post. Rayo was able to hold Real goalless until the 2nd half when Angel Di Maria & Gonzalo Higuain put Real on top as they marched to a 8-1 win on aggregate.

The 3rd time is not a charm for Rayo as the big dog in Madrid once again showed Rayo that's it their territory. A 2-1 HT lead for Real was quickly pushed to 4-1 when Higuain scored two times in under a minute. Up next Rayo will travel down the road to the Vincente Calderon to face Atletico Madrid.

An early brace by on-loan forward Odion Inghalo was enough to hold off Rayo tonight and claim all 3 points. Danny Pacheco for Rayo got Rayo close but Granada clamped down and kept Rayo from scoring the equalizer.

It is frustrating at times. I feel the pressure of having to create for my club and we're always going to be outmatched when it comes to talent.

We're fighting in the relegation zone. I expect it to come down to the wire.

Two 2nd half goals by Michel were enough to give the Burger King boys all 3 points today as Rayo continues to slide down the table towards regulation. A goal before halftime once again gave the Rayo faithful hope but 9 minutes after intermission they were all but crushed by Michel.
