Getting to Know Tyreek Green

Tyreek Green The Future.jpg

Our own Luc Bolduc took a few moments on Thursday Afternoon to sit down with the squads newest player.

LB: How are you doing Tyreek?

TG: A little tired, stamina bar is still in the red, just got back from practice.

LB: How did it go out there?

TG: Pretty good, I scored my second goal.

LB: Nice, You have been here for two months now, how is the French coming along?

TG: (Laughter) It's coming, but I am glad that most of the guys on the team speak some English.

LB: Alright Tyreek, here is the question everyone has been dying to ask, How does an American kid with tremendous athletic ability end up playing football halfway across the globe?

TG: Good question. Well, it's a long story actually, but I will try to tell it as quick as I can. I was born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio. My Dad was arrested when I was 7, and I haven't seen him since. My Mom basically raised me and my younger brother and sister on her own, and instilled in me that I could do whatever I wanted in life, if I worked hard and stayed focused. I owe everything to my Mom, without her I would be very far from here.

LB: So, did you play Football in Youngstown?

TG: Yes, I played football. I was a big fan of the Cleveland Browns growing up, and I was an all city defensive back in Junior High.

LB: (Laughter) No, not that football!!!

TG: (Laughter) I know I am just playing. Nah, I didn't play Soccer, it wasn't even on my radar until I moved to stay with my Auntie in Atlanta. I was 15 when I first kicked a ball.

LB: What was it that drew you to the game?

TG: There were some guys at my High School who played the game after school, and when I was a Freshman my Auntie was late in picking me up one day, so I decided to try playing with those guys, and I did pretty good.
Then, I started playing Pro Evolution Soccer on my PS2 and later on my PS3, and I starting learning a lot about the game. Started watching real games on the internet, and was amazed by the incredible range of emotions in Soccer. One moment you are tense, and the next moment you are on top of the world, the next moment you are feeling like the worst person on earth. There is no other sport like it.
Then I decided to go out for the team at Lakeside High, and the rest as they say is history.

LB: How good were you when you played the first time?

TG: Let's just say, I made those boys look pretty stupid. (Laughter)

LB: Now that you are here, where do you see yourself in the next few years?

TG: First and foremost this game is a business. You know that, the coaches and owners know that, and some of the fans are starting to learn that also. I like it here in Toulouse, and I would like to stay here a long time, but only time will tell.

LB: How are you dealing with not being out there for a game yet?

TG: Honestly it's hard. I want to be out there so bad, I have had 2 goals and 1 assist in practice sessions, but I know that Manager Casanova is keeping me out for my own good, at this level everyone is quicker, faster, and stronger than I am used to. He just wants me to improve so once I get out there, I can compete.

LB: One final question for you, Is there a special reason you wear the green wrist band, and the green shorts?

TG: As a matter of fact there is a reason. When I look down at my wristband, it reminds me of who I am, and where I have come from. I think about my Mom working three jobs in Youngstown to make a better life for us, I think of my Dad serving 25 to life. It keeps me humble.

The green shorts are strictly for the opposition. If they forget my name, when I score on them, they will see my shorts as I leave them behind me. And they will say to themselves, "Oh yeah, that's Tyreek Green, the one from the States, he isn't too bad after all."

LB: Good luck on the rest of the season Tyreek.

TG: Thanks Luc, I appreciate it.

Re: Tyreek Green: From Lakeside High to Soccer Superstardom? (PES 2009)

Just stumbled on to this one by way of Matt's thread. Sounds a lot like the beginning of my aborted BAL -- nothing but the reserves! At the time I didn't have the patience (it wasn't much fun as my teammates were awful), but you guys are making me want to give it another go. If I may ask, where is that headshot from? In game?

It is from the appearance page of your Legend. I was amazed at how good the picture turned out to be. I have become addicted to this mode now, as probably everyone can see.

Strong Showing in Loss

TOULOUSE - Violets Lose, but played well in loss. Many expected this to be a blowout, but Toulouse showed some heart in this one. Soren Larsen scored the lone goal for TFC, and with it became the team leader also with a grand total of two.

Larsen Continues to Shine as TFC Ties Nice

NICE - Soren Larsen's form was quite nice in Nice today, as he put two goals in the back of the net to double his goal count on the season.

"It's great to have two goals in a game, but I wish I could have had a third so we could pick up three points instead of just one." Said Larsen.

TFC Gets a Hard Fought Point

CAEN - Whoever said winning was easy didn't spend any time in Ligue 1. At least, not any time with TFC in 2008-09.

The violet claden men of Toulouse, played very hard, but were not able to get a win. In spite of that, in the locker room guys were upbeat in tying such a quality team.

"We are showing progress. Guys on this team are not quitters, there is still a lot of time in this season, and if we keep playing hard who knows what will happen?" Midfielder Etienne Didot said follwing the game, whose lone goal tied the match in the 67th minute.

Toulouse hopes to pick up their first win at home next week against Lorient.

No, it's alright. I have a Macbook Pro, that has a camera, and I just took the picture straight from there. I have saved a few replays, but I can't find my video camera since we moved from the West Coast (terrible I know), maybe I will go out and buy one if I can't find it.

I will definitely have a highlight reel at the end of the season.

TFC Finally Sends the Hometown Supporters Home Happy

TOULOUSE - It was a great day for the Violets. They easily handled Lorient 3-1, and picked up their first long awaited victory at home.

"Today was a good day." Said Andre-Pierre Gignac, whose two second half goals put away Lorient for good. "Today we saw what the result was for those long hard training sessions in the offseason."

Don't look now but TFC have not lost in 3 straight games, and today's win was a big one, that lifted them significantly from the bottom feeders.

In other news, Tyreek Green was all smiles as he learned that he has earned a spot on the teams bench. Which means, we could possibly see the youngster in Paris for his Professional Debut.
