Bordeaux Back on Track

LORIENT - Five weeks in perennial Ligue 1 powerhouse Bordeaux was without a win.

They were licking their chops when they saw Lorient on the schedule. The result was an overwhelming assault on goal that left their opposition in La La land.

Bordeaux led by the best footballer in the world - Christian Ronaldo, beat Lorient in their house 1-0.

Ronaldo scored the lone goal of the game late in the first half by deflection. which he promptly headed into the top right corner of the net.

"It was a flukey goal. I saw it hit off the defender and I was at the right place at the right time. I will take it though." Ronaldo said after the game.

Tyreek Green with his first start in the Orange and Black, was unable to have one attempt on goal. As Bordeaux defense was stifling.

1ST ROUND / 2ND LEG / 1-1 AGGREGATE

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: This game has all the trappings of being an interesting one. Who ever wins will move on in the Coupe De La Ligue Tournament, who ever loses can just concentrate on Ligue play. (In the case of a 0-0 draw Lorient would move on, because they were able to get an away goal in their previous meeting.) Tyreek Green will not start because of his heavy minutes earlier in the week, and it is doubtful he will play at all.

Bitter Pill To Swallow

LORIENT - In a game that was up for grabs until the very end, Toulouse were the ones celebrating when the final whistle sounded.

Robert Huth headed in the game winner in stoppage time to give Toulouse the win 2-1, and more importantly to lead his team to the second round of the Coupe De La Ligue.

The game was all tied 0-0, until the beginning of the second half when Soren Larsen scored to give the Violets the 1-0 lead.

Six minutes later Tyreek Green was tackled in the box, and a penalty kick was awarded to Lorient. And Bertrand Robert made Toulouse pay for the foul by getting the goal that equalized the game - for the moment.

That set the stage for Robert Huth to head in the game winner from the corner kick. "What a great feeling!" Huth said follwing the win. "I came over last year and had to endure a terrible second half of the season, and to get this on a stage like this, makes it all the more special."

Tyreek Green was dejected in the locker room, "It was so damn hard to see my old team mates celebrating on my new home field. It was one of those games that could have gone either way, but I really wanted this one. That makes it harder to stomach."

Green played his best game so far as part of the Les Merlus. Garnering a match rating of 7.0, even though he came in as a substitute at the start of the second half.

We will see how Lorient will respond to such a crushing loss as Ligue 1 season play will resume next week.

Lorient, Valenciennes Both Earn a Point

VALENCIENNES - Perhaps Lorient should have won this game, but they are happy they could get a point on the road.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: The Defending Ligue 1 Champions come to town to face the Les Merlus. Lorient hasn't looked bad the last few games even though their record isn't exactly desirable. If they could pull out a win against Marseille it would be huge for them. But, don't bet on it.

Outclassed.

LORIENT - The defending Ligue Champions showed their mettle and skills.

That totally dominated the game on every level.

FC Lorient were no match for the well oiled machine that is Marseille, as the champs showed why they are the superior team.

They totally frustrated the 18 year old Tyreek Green as he played a very poor game only receiving a 5.0 overall rating. And most importantly he was unable to get a shot off.

At the 30' mark it was Guy Kassa Gnabouyou who was the beneficiary of a lovely through ball from Deco, and he finished with exceptional flair by putting in a place that no one in the world could have stopped.

After that point it was pure domination as Marseille out shot Lorient 10-2.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: Lorient is a little thin at the forward spot due to injuries. Which could spell trouble for them.
