Offhand, is it in the 3.00 range and does the game replicate this?
I'd say per game BB averages are about in that range in the NPB. Whether or not Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2012 replicates that depends quite a bit on the CPU pitching difficulty level you choose. On the lowest difficulty levels, the CPU will almost only throw strikes, with most of them landing around the middle of the strike zone. Once you get around the mid-range difficulty levels, the CPU starts to throw a more realistic number of balls. But when you get into the really high difficulty, the CPU paints the corners and edges of the strike zone with ridiculous accuracy. So even though they're still throwing a good number of balls, it's going to be a lot more difficult to lay off of those borderline pitches and draw walks.

If you go to the Spirits Translation website that Big Carolina linked above, there is a whole section that breaks down and analyzes the different pitch difficulty settings, but it's more or less been determined that Hard- (that's Hard Minus) CPU Pitch Difficulty will yield the most realistic number of walks.

I get that this won't mean much to you, since you don't have the game yet, but now you'll have a head start.

Walks are definitely there, it all comes down to your patience and knowing the strikezone. As far as user pitching goes you can paint pretty well with your top rated pitchers but not so much with lower rated guys. You can however play w/o K zone, cursor or the pitchers timing interface which makes pitching a lot tougher.

You have to remember that while this game will give you pretty accurate stats it's more (at least to me ) about the fact that you as a user have control over everything there is, from hitting to pitching and also defense which is totally different than what you are likely used to if you've been playing the show.

Also while you as a user have this control all aspects of the game are easier to pull off with your higher rated players which is as it should be.

Also if you think you've seen "real ball physics" you ain't seen nothing till you play this game.

Re: Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2012 Thread

My interest has certainly spiked. There's a video over at the Spirits site of a game in the rain (CPU vs CPU I think...) that practically blew me away. I've never seen anything like it.

When I play The Show, I never ever field or throw. That's all auto. Regardless of how well or unwell it's implemented, I have zero interest in fielding or throwing in a baseball video game.

That said, does PYS 2012 have an auto fielding and throwing option?

Thanks for all the help guys. Even briefly being on that site reiterated that Hard+ is where the BB's are (hitting-wise).

Yes, you definitely have the option to set fielding and throwing to auto, if you're only interested in controlling the pitching and hitting. I also usually have little interest in controlling the fielding in baseball video games, but the fielding in PYS, like pretty much every other aspect of the game, is just so much fun to control. It manages to be very simple and straightforward, while also being satisfying and having a lot of depth.

Re: Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2012 Thread

Thanks for the help everyone.

I've been scouring the Internet looking for a video tutorial (rather than gameplay video, which is plentiful. As is written tutorials). Even an old one that would get the point across, but to no avail.

I promise to stop overwhelming this thread with my nonsense questions. You guys have answered just about everything I wanted to know (and the Spirits translation site has just about covered the rest).

But, if anyone has a video tutorial (in English) handy - even an old one - it would be much appreciated. I hope to pick this title up eventually...

I recorded a 'tutorial' video of PYS 2011, but I never posted it. It was basically me playing the in-game tutorial, and my plan was to post it on YouTube with English captions, but I never got around to it. I believe I still have the raw video, if that will help. It does give you an idea of what certain commands 'look' like in Japanese.

Thanks TheSLAB and Tvman.

Tvman, thanks for the link.

TheSLAB, the more the better. If not too much of a trouble, your tutorial without captions would be fine.

Don't let the language barrier scare you h & v. The site that I listed will get you through any and everything.

After playing for awhile you will start to know where things are and how to do them yourself (almost even understand the commentators....almost).

Pull the trigger if you have the funds. You won't regret it.

I'm sure I won't.

Though I'm involved in a long-term relationship with my The Show Franchise, that tease from Asia is looking a little sweet right now too.

It may be a while before I have $80+ disposable on this, but I certainly will be getting it at some point. I'm impressed immensely.
