Re: Dallas Cowboys War Room

I realize we may not even pick if this doesn't go beyond one round, but who/what should the Cowboys be looking for in Round 2?

The needs for Dallas, in no particular order and IMO of course are as follows:

-offensive line (so inconsistent)
-speed at offensive skill positions (TO, Roy, and Witten aren't scaring anyone deep, I don't think)
-coverage safety (we haven't had a good cover safety since Woodson left)
-inside linebacker (we may let Zach Thomas and Kevin Burnett both walk)
-defensive line (to pair a new guy up with Ratliff; Marcus Spears is a bust and Chris Canty probably has reached his ceiling)
-backup quarterback (probably better off looking for a veteran, but please not Brad Johnson or Brooks Bollinger)

With the first pick I think the Cowboys need an impact player on offense. Someone like this Roy Williams kid out of Texas. ;-)

Eh, it's so hard to figure a pick that far down in the 2nd round until the draft really starts. I'm with the usual suspects (OL, ILB, NT)

Re: Dallas Cowboys War Room

They need a cover safety, no question about it. Speed at WR? I think they have that in Miles, if he stays healthy. I think he's taking the #3 spot away from Crayton anyways.

The offensive line starters are all signed to contracts, somehow I doubt they draft anyone to replace one. The biggest loss was Kosier, when he went out, so did the consistancy of the OL.

RB, they are fine. I agree they need a backup QB. I cannot see any good from Bollinger and I'm sure Brad is done.

Even tho JJ has said he won't go after a big name in FA, I find that highly unlikely. I think he'll fill a big need in the leadership category, somehow, someway. The Boys just don't have that leader, Ray Ray would be great to fill that void.

Re: Dallas Cowboys War Room

I think discussion will pick up once we get to the second round. We get to sit and watch for a bit, since we can't pull a Jerruh and do some bonehead trade for a top draft pick.

There's some talk now that Chris Canty is giving the Dolphins a long, hard look. He's on record saying he's looking for a deal not unlike that of Tommy Kelly, who signed with the Raiders last year for some absurd amount if I recall.

Re: Dallas Cowboys War Room

To start, O line would be a good idea. But whit Romo in at QB, we have some of the best Olines in all of football. Romo makes the line look and play better. Reason being is cuz of his escape ability, he can extend plays, also he makes fast decisions, he doesnt hold on to the ball that much. With Brad Johnson at QB, the line looked horrible, WHY???? Becuz he holds on to the ball to long, there for, the line has to block longer, and they cant hold blocks that long.

Since the rediculous trade for Roy Williams, which i think was stupid, we have no 1st rd pick. Why trade for him if he was due to be a freeagent? Why give up so much, and then make him 1 of thehighest paid WR in the NFL? I love Jerry Jones, but this move was bad. I hope Roy makes me eat my words, cuz I want any cowboy player to excel and be successful. But we gave up to much. Jerry is a football guy, hes been around for along time. Doesnt he know that it takes time for Roy to get comfortable with the offense. Get comfortable with Romo, and get timing down with Tony....To bring him in mid-season, and expect him to blow up, i knew it wasnt going to happen.

The offense was more effecient, explosive, and effective without Roy Williams. It was better with a Healthy Austin, and Hurd. And not to mention that Crayton is a good route runner, and great after the catch....SO WHY....?

But this years draft i see a couple postions:

O line/ O line depth

D line/ D line depth- Its hard to tell with stats how well DE's do in a 3-4 defense. So for people to say that Spears is a bust, and that Canty has reached his ceiling...i think isnt right. I love Canty, i think he fits the system greatly...Great size, and good ability....The NT position is a different story. There is greater chance for "stats" in NT then DE. But we can always use depth

With Zach maybe leaving, depth at MLB. Depth at OLB is also a need. Ellis aging....

A WR wouldnt be a bad idea, with an aging T.O, and the possibility of him being released.

Veteran back up QB

Safety, definetly, Roy has declined over the years, and this past year he battled with the same injury twice

Speacial team specialist/ Returner- This is an area that we havent had much success, so if we are able to find a great returner, that would be great.

Re: Dallas Cowboys War Room

I actually wouldn't mind a WR with our second round pick.

Safety feels like the biggest need.

Can't go wrong with a DL or OL

Re: Dallas Cowboys War Room

face it...dallas is rebuilding....they might not know it, but they are.

i have been a fan of them long enough to know what it looks like. Too bad for Barber and Witten, but it ain't getting any better than it was before the botch in Seattle.

They are banking on Romo, who can't have much more upside, and our key players won't be around for a new QB to develop once Romo leaves. A big free agent QB might help in a few years.
The secondary is atrocious, and has been for many, many years; and Roy Williams's career was pretty much ruined by the staff that i guess simply refused to watch his college films.
And Jason Garrett...doesn't know as much as he thinks he knows.

I'm not sure how you can claim we're "rebuilding" after we managed a 9-7 season in a divison where 2 teams made the playoffs including the defending Superbowl champ and we lost our starting QB for several games. The Cowboys probably we never as good as the 13-3 team from two years ago, but they are certainly good enough to win 10 games and a wild card with a core of players that includes Witten, Gurode, Flozell, Davis, Ratliff, James, Newman, Ware and Hamlin.
