Five Necessary Remakes for XBLA/PSN

All it takes is a quick scan of the most popular games on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network to reveal what most gamers already know: remakes are big business in the gaming world right now.

Taking classic, old-school games, dressing them up a bit and releasing them for download is nothing new, particularly among Xbox Live Arcade games. But in the past year or so, high-quality remakes of old games have really come into their own and, in the process, have carved out quite a nice niche for themselves.

For proof look no further than Major Nelson’s list of the top arcade titles on Xbox Live for the week of August 31. Among the top 10: Battlefield 1943, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and Turtles in Time Re-Shelled. Meanwhile, on PSN both Final Fantasy VII and SimCity 2000 currently sit among the top downloads. And over the course of the past year, both Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix and Worms 2 have enjoyed success in the digital-download space.

They tried remaking TSB on the DS. It was awful.

Perfect 5. Tecmo Bowl or even Super Tecmo would be the ultimate XBLA/PSN games. Great list though...

I agree with NBA Jam, but for basketball games being remade onto the XBLA and PSN I would love to see an updated NBA Street vol 2 updated and an SNES version of NBA Live.

I've been plugging NHL94 since the X360 was released. Leave gameplay/graphics alone. Update the rosters and add online play = $$$$. It will easily sell more than the 3 on 3 arcade crap they released last year.

Great list. I would like to see EA release NHL 94, Madden 93 (with classic teams included), Coach K, and NBA Live 95. Maybe even NHL 98, which was awesome on the PlayStation.

I would like to see Microsoft bring back Links 2004.

Tecmo SuperBowl, the original RBI, Baseball Stars and Double Dribble would be sweet additions as well....

I want them to remake Bill Walsh College Football, so I can actually play a PLAYOFF in college football.

NFL Blitz and NHL 94 are at the top of my list of sports titles I'd like to see on Xbox Live Arcade.

@ rfc redheat
Goldeneye with online capabilities...oh my word! They might already have made these available but I'd love to see the original two Perfect Dark's for download on the Arcade.

I think they have Conker: Live and Reloaded for download in the game store, but I'm not sure if it has online. That game was fun as hell online, storming the beaches in a Normandy-esque battle and working with your entire team to break through those barriers while getting nailed with grenades from the defending team above.....but I digress...a lot.
