2009 Season Playoffs: Wild-Card Round

Welcome to the 2009 OperationSports.com Madden Online Franchise Playoffs

And now, a word from the commish:

Well, we've made it! We're finally here in the playoffs in the inaugural season of the OperationSports.com Madden Online Franchise! Congratulations to all of you who've made it into the postseason, and best of luck in the offseason to those who didn't.

As I've mentioned already, a big thanks goes out to Ryan Ferwerda and Seth Christie at EA Tiburon for setting our playoffs up the way they should be. One owner in particular (Houston) REALLY thanks you guys!

So, as we begin the postseason, let's recap the 2009 regular season standings:

Please note that the major changes to the playoffs (Houston in rather than Tennessee) will not be indicated in those standings but they are, in fact, now in the playoffs.

It's been an outstanding first season that began with 32 human owners. Perhaps we were a bit too optimistic about how that would go but now that we've dropped down to a more manageable number, I see no reason why season two won't be just as smooth, if not smoother, than season one.

Please note that while I'm not looking to fill the league up again, I may be adding a human owner here and there to try to even up some divisions that lack a lot of human competition.

With all of that said, to the teams in the playoffs, best of luck. Here are the Wild-Card Round Match-Ups:

Wild-Card Round Schedule

1234OTT
Patriots (12-4)
BoSox247
------
Ravens (12-4)
Millennium
------

A rematch from the regular season that saw the Ravens come out on top, 34-24. In that game, New England was forced to play the majority of the ballgame without QB Tom Brady. A healthy Brady will be essential if the Patriots have any hopes of escaping Baltimore with a win and a spot in the divisional round.

1234OTT
Bengals (12-4)
elTodd
------
Texans (8-8)
JohnnytheSkin
------

Coach Johnny and his Texans went on one hell of an end-of-season run to eek their way into the playoffs. Along the way, they knocked off some pretty stiff competition to get to where they are today. Many times, teams like this are "just happy to be there". It remains to be seen whether the Texans will fall into that category. For Cincinnati, elTodd is a Coach of the Year candidate and the Bengals are no joke. His passing attack was darn near unmatched throughout the regular season.

1234OTT
Seahawks (11-5)
jwoodlock
------
Cowboys (12-4)
SteveOS
------

The Cowboys fell all the way from potentially clinching home field advantage to not even getting a first round bye. That's how tough it is in the NFL. Even still, Dallas has a football game to play here in the Wild-Card round and it won't be an easy one, as Coach Acid and his gritty Seahawk squad come rolling into Jerry World. The last QB to win a playoff game for the Cowboys was Troy Aikman, and Tony Romo would like to get that playoff monkey off his back.

1234OTT
Panthers (12-4)
Ch33k0
------
Bears (9-7)
AltimusZero
------

The "Monsters of the Midway" traded in their defensive badge of honor for some high powered offensive weapons this season and it has worked. Jay Cutler and Lee Evans make quite the 1-2 combo for the Bears, but Jake Delhomme and Steve Smith may put on a show themselves. The Panthers were a streaky team this season, as they started out rough but rattled off several wins in a row before stumbling late in the season. That late season collapse cost them a division title. Which Panthers team will show up at Soldier Field?

Next Sim Date

PLEASE try to have these games played by Wednesday, November 4th at 11am. I realize Steve is away on vacation this weekend but I'd love to see the other 3 get played before the clock strikes Monday. Of course, if all 4 games are played sooner, we'll advance sooner.

Good luck!

Of course when he said that, Steve Smith went about 70 yards for a catch.

Crazy game... Jake Delhomme turns into typical Jake and almost gives up the win..

Re: 2009 Season Playoffs: Wild-Card Round

Uh...TJ...shouldn't I have the top spot in the South since I won the division?

And elTodd, when do you want to have our rematch, this time in Houston. I'm good tonight, otherwise it'll probably have to wait until Tuesday night, unless you can go during the day over the weekend (have yard work, trick-or-treaters, and we're going to dinner Sunday and Monday nights).

I can read just fine, I know I'm in the playoffs, but look at the standings above. Something just doesn't look correct...
