Is the AI off/def reputable compared to NHL 10 AI.I am trying to get a good overall view on YouTube but I leave undecided.

Re: Maybe I will give 2k10 a go

hard to say, i mean to each their own..

i come to the conclusion this year that NHl 10 (for me) offline is not much of an upgrade to the past few years. stale to me now, boring etc. i just play eashl games now.

to get my offline fix ill be using nhl 2k10.. just a bit more fresh feeling for me compared to ea's..

but again, to each their own.. i just needed a change for offline play this year.

Can't help ya there, bud. I don't play NHL 10. I will say that the offensive ai is pretty darn good and they score in a variety of ways. In addition, when they score, it doesn't feel cheap. Defensively, they are challenging for sure, but the d-men do like to beeline for the front of the crease at times, ignoring opposing skaters. Otherwise, they pressure you well without blasting you with big checks.

Yep his sliders are about as good as this game is going to get. Unless the patch is the real deal. If it is and they are able to patch some of the little things that cause this game from being great. Then I say this will be the better game of hockey this year! Though I have been enjoying this game very much and would be fine if it wasn't patch, but for all those others that don't feel that way. I hope the patch is what you all have been asking for.

Re: Maybe I will give 2k10 a go

The truth is you just have to accept 2k10 for what it is no matter what sliders you apply. The sliders do not do enough to cover the elements that are just too poorly implemented.

The pro stick still needs work as it all too often feels wooden and obstructive to use, especially when trying to take shots under pressure. For some reason the players won't respond to the controller input in certain situations and it just feels too clumsy to feel like you can be an offensive threat with any consistency.
It can be difficult set up in the offensive zone even on a powerplay and too often you have to hurry shots off and the pro stick aiming is not very good.

Defense is a real dissapointment as trying to take control of your guys often has then stopping, spinning or sliding out of position. The cpu ai are too good at stick lifts and poke checks and it feels unbalanced. Sliders can help even it up a bit but I am still yet to find something I am content with. It seems silly to me that you have to take your fingers off the stick to let animations play out in order to get the best control of your guy. There must be a better way to program the game than this.

I dunno, for some reason I feel 2k9 handled better than 2k10 in some areas especially with the skating backwards and stopping from a backwards skate. This year it just feels clumsy. EA's game is way smoother and the skill stick is very responsive.

The good stuff is the messy play and the puck physics. Maybe the patch can do some good to rectify issues that badly need addressing. Still, I feel a little misled by 2k in the very little info they gave out before release that this game plays so much better than 2k9. I just don't really feel that. They play pretty similar with some changes in 2k10's favour but it was not the drastic improvement I was expecting.

Enjoy the sliders, you will definitely get a different hockey experience to NHL 10 which I agree has become stale.

Wow, have you been sitting in my living room and watching me play? That's exactly sums up my experience as of late with 2k10. It's been a bit frustrating watching my defensemen make some really boneheaded plays because they just sit there and don't go after the puck or turn the wrong way. Same goes for the cpu's super sticklifting abilities. I dunno what it is, but for some reason the gameplay seems to have changed imo since the last couple of roster updates. Maybe it's just me.........and maybe it's not.

Re: Maybe I will give 2k10 a go

I hear you 06! I dunno, just trying to move the puck around in the defensive zone can be catastrophic because of the whole momentum thing. I will wire a pass to my right D man who then starts off facing backwards and I either have to pull him around or try and pass the puck away before the heat comes. Now, normally when I have possession in defense it seems to be smoother to control than when I am without possession.

I tried playing a quick game on default pro sliders just to see what it felt like and then I loaded up 2k9. 2k9 is much stiffer and unfriendly stick handling wise and the transition from forward skating to backward skating utilises a fast sweeping motion but at least you don't get stuck spinning the wrong way.

Really, there are things about 2k9 that just felt better in terms of it being a video game. At the same time it made the game feel more arcade than sim. I really like the supposed concepts behind the momentum and so forth but the control scheme needs attention.

Your sliders are some good work but they can't redeem some of the uglier sides to this game.

I am torn though. I just can't play this game for more than 1 game per night. Normally part way into the 2nd consecutive game I just power the console off because the ugly sides detract too much. I am reluctant to play NHL10 because it just feels old. To liven it up I chose a new club in Franchise mode and the novelty of returning to a game with good controls is great...the 300 year old presentation and camera angles drag it down too much though.

Still...Borderlands is good and Assassins Creed II is out real soon. Plus it is great to be with my little boy, my wife and family and to go outside! Christmas is coming, the birth of Christ is awesome to remember, these are just games and I am glad 2k are doing some patch work notheless.
