NHL 2K10 "Little Things" Thread

OK, we already had the "anti little things/little things that frustrate me" thread so I decided to reignite the standard thread for this year's game. To those who haven't played 2K9 and who don't know about all the various "little things" in that game, please check my 2K9 thread from last year. This thread should, ideally, be only for the new enhancements we see in 2K10.

-I love how the arena announcer pumps up the crowd in key moments...during powerplays, at the beginning of overtime, during key moments in the game (late-game ties). It's cool to hear the PA announcer screaming about "making noise" or "being on the powerplay" like during crucial moments of the NBA 2K series (although it doesn't quite go to the length of doing specific team callouts). Now, if they only had spent as much time on commentary...

-Arena-specific sounds have been improved and expanded to the PA announcer as well. When the Predators score, a roar plays over the PA system and the announcer says a team-specific line in some cases (but not in all). Other teams have "signature goal calls" but they often alternate with the standard "(team here) Goooooooal!" calls by the PA, and it's most noticeable in crucial situations (tying goals, PP goals et cetera).

-The famous Harry Belafonte "Day-O" chant (or is it actually "HEY-O" in the 2K Sports universe?) made it into NHL 2K this year. I noticed it last night for the first time in a game that went into overtime. Those of you that have played the NBA 2K demo or have seen videos know this chant is a LOT more noticeable in that game...but it's really cool that NHL features it.

-The entire "League History" feature in Franchise Mode. There are league leaders and trophy winners dating back to the early 1900's, which, for stats guys like myself, immerses me. Now, if only they used this feature during gameplay like Madden often does instead of just featuring info in menus, I would be very impressed. It could be used for an NHL TODAY feature next year...if there even is a next year, that is. I would love to see it since NBA 2K10's presentation is arguably the best out there because of the feature (yes, even better than The Show's...but there's always next year to reignite the debate).

So, anyone see or hear anything interesting in 2K10 so far?

I like how when I score a goal the ref make the goal gesture. Pretty cool seeing that. I don't know if it is after every goal, but he did do it in one game I was playing. I love the ice this year and the slap shots look really good too. I love the incidental contact too.

Score boards. Some of them have the real score and the shot totals are right too. In Pit they have the number of the player in the penalty box.

I like how the gameplay can often be messy and chaotic, like the real game, instead of a collage of end-to-end rushes and tape-to-tape passes.

For some reason the replays of goals often look great. The way the puck rockets off the stick can often create immersion with replays of goals scored.

I love the incidental contact and 'weight' to players.

Just to name a few things off the top of my head.

I love the AI. They really now how to set up and beat you bad. If you do dumb things with the puck in your own end.

I do love the defensive possibilities in this game...for example if you got stick-lifted, in EAs game its a turnover and you cannot react on it...in 2k10 on the other hand you can stick lift the other player right after you were sticklifted etc.. So its not just 1dimensional (1players does something and if he wins the coinflip, he gets the puck and if not, nothing happens)

They had this in 2K9, Scott. I'm trying to make this thread exclusive to what they added in the game this year.

I mean if we run out of things in the first ten posts then I'm fine with the idea, it's just that one of the reasons this thread was made was to let people know what actually has changed in the "little things" department. But if worse comes to worse I guess adding 2K9 stuff in the post won't be the end of the world.

When 3 players celebrate together after a goal, it adds so much more realness to it all, a layer of depth and believable personality that pulls you into the experience all the more.

Role on full 5 man celebrations, i thought we were getting it this year.

Oh and the AiI is pretty good too.

Re: NHL 2K10 "Little Things" Thread

Just played in Ottawa in my franchise with the Preds. When a goal was scored, the annoucer spoke in French. Very cool little touch to help with the immersion. I don't know if this was in 2k9, but it sure as heck impressed me a few minutes ago.
