Re: ACCEL/ICE FRICTION

I'm always up to try a better brand of hockey. When I get home, I'll give 'em a whirl. I forget, are you on 360 or PS3?

I'm on the PS3. I didnt upload them yet. I know people are gonna see the high ice friction and probably frown upon these sliders, but when you use the speed burst, it helps to overcome the sluggish behavior.

Re: ACCEL/ICE FRICTION

My real question is coasting. How is that for you? If you let go of the left stick, are you grinding to a halt?

Re: ACCEL/ICE FRICTION

You will coast plenty after using speed burst. The more friction helps during normal movement without the speed burst... for power plays and also positioning for defense. Guys wont be gliding past each other producing more lanes.. It keeps the game tight and more defensive because you dont have many windows to work your passes and shots

Well, I ended up heading home with strep, so I'll check this out in a bit.

Sounds good. Any feedback would be great.. who knows you may find these horrible. I'm just trying to get any idea on how most people think the game should flow on the ice.

Re: ACCEL/ICE FRICTION

Here's what I did. To save time, I simply took my sliders, and cranked ice friction to 100. Then I took it down to 0 to feel the difference. The friction doesn't really affect normal skating, when you're deking etc. Like you said, it just settles the player down when he's moving slower. Since I was using speed burst as a way to accelerate anyways, I didn't notice any further issue.

ALSO! I found another lil' tidbit about controls. In practice, I found that when I made passes to players who weren't moving in an obvious direction, etc., if I let go of the left stick as the pass was being made, I avoided a TON of those wonky animations when a player tries to stop or turn funky. Once he had the puck, or just as he got the puck, I would continue with the left stick. This REALLY helped smooth out skating.

So, I really like the idea of cranking up ice friction. With where I have speed and acceleration (75 and 78, respectively), it really was nice. I like this.

Re: ACCEL/ICE FRICTION

Ya I did a lot of testing in practice and agree with what you are saying.. Not enough friction for me causes guys to float or glide too much out of position. With the speed burst, it helps to move at a faster pace and you will still glide a good distance after release. Any movement without speed burst should not result in such a floaty movement. It really helps on setting up on powerplays and defense. You have to use speed burst to get to loose pucks and also to chase dumps.

After playing so many games, I don't want to play any other way than having ice friction and acceleration set at 100. I think skater speed is up to the individual. Once he is happy with the speed, then speed burst can be adjusted accordingly.

I basically started from one end of the rink.. used speed burst and at the 35 setting the burst is exhausted right around the red line. After it runs out, the skater will glide all the way past the goal line and almost stop just before the board. At that time, the recovery of 45 will allow for another burst when turning around to go back up the ice.

I really like it. The skate speed gives you enough to get through your zone and neutral zone, even though friction is at 100... and once speed burst is activated you should have enough speed to attack the net.

I find the CPU and your AI teammates really use the speed burst properly too.

Good stuff

Re: ACCEL/ICE FRICTION

Never thought of this. I have had ice friction way down and have found my players on defense doing exactly as you say...sliding out of position. Am going to try your ideas right away!
