Re: ACCEL/ICE FRICTION
Here's what I did. To save time, I simply took my sliders, and cranked ice friction to 100. Then I took it down to 0 to feel the difference. The friction doesn't really affect normal skating, when you're deking etc. Like you said, it just settles the player down when he's moving slower. Since I was using speed burst as a way to accelerate anyways, I didn't notice any further issue.
ALSO! I found another lil' tidbit about controls. In practice, I found that when I made passes to players who weren't moving in an obvious direction, etc., if I let go of the left stick as the pass was being made, I avoided a TON of those wonky animations when a player tries to stop or turn funky. Once he had the puck, or just as he got the puck, I would continue with the left stick. This REALLY helped smooth out skating.
So, I really like the idea of cranking up ice friction. With where I have speed and acceleration (75 and 78, respectively), it really was nice. I like this.
