Re: Dallas Cowboys War Room

It was definitely a unique approach, but I like the idea of going after the high character/high motor players. I think that's something this team has lacked over the last few years despite all of the talent on our roster.

It wasn't a flashy draft after the Claiborne pick, but I like that they were able to address needs while still sticking to the draft board. Just gotta trust that the scouts and coaches did their due diligence in determining our board and hope that most of them pan out.

I like the Coale and Hanna picks, and think Johnson could be a nice playmaker at safety based on what I've read. I'm excited to see how all these guys fit in and the different ways they're utilized in Ryan's schemes.

Mo Claiborne will be a difference maker. We haven't had a true cover corner since Deion.

Re: Dallas Cowboys War Room

Not really familiar with James Hanna but his measurables look pretty good and I could see him replacing Martellus Bennett. Hopefully he can block.

I love Danny Coale no homo. But I watched him all 4 years he was here at VT and he was one of my favorite players. The saying goes "Danny Coale is always open." He doesn't have elite size, speed, or athleticism but he's a cerebral player and always finds spots much like Jason Witten does. Has great hands too. I could see him developing some kind of rapport with Romo like Witten has done and being a good possession receiver for us.

I think he's exactly the type of player we need as a third WR and was really pleased with those two picks. I've heard Hanna isn't a very good blocker, but hopefully he can develop that part of his game and be a serviceable number 2 TE.

I'm excited about a couple of the UDFA's we got, Jerry seems to be really big on Leary so it'll be interesting to see if he competes for a starting spot. I'm interested to see what Adrian Hamilton (20.5 sacks at Prairie View A&M last year) can develop into if he adjusts to the leap in competition and puts in work with Ware in practice. Could be an excellent outside pass rushing tandem if he pans out.

These are our UDFA additions so far, reportedly:

Darrell Scott, RB, USF
Troy Woolfolk, CB, Michigan
Ronald Leary, OG, Memphis
Jeff Adams, OT, Columbia
Taylor Dever, OT, Notre Dame
Adrian Hamilton, DE, Prairie View A&M
Aston Whiteside, LB, Abilene Christian
Levy Adcock, OT, Oklahoma State
Eddie Whitley, FS, VTech
George Bryan, TE, North Carolina State
Andrew Szcrerba, TE, Penn State
Isaac Madison, CB, Arkansas
Lionel Smith, CB, Texas A&M
Lance Dunbar, RB, North Texas
Cole Beasley, WR, SMU
Tyrone Novikoff, OT, Idaho
Charley Hughlett, LS, UCF

A possible Laurent Robinson replacement?

Re: Dallas Cowboys War Room

That's what I'm hoping/thinking. He's not the athlete Laurent is but definitely a capable slot receiver, one of those guys who could be very reliable on 3rd downs. A lot of people like to give him the Wes Welker comparison, but I think mostly because he's white lol. But I could see him being used in the same way.

Re: Dallas Cowboys War Room

The more I think about this draft the more I think the Cowboys actually did something smart.

Yes, I understand they lost a 2nd round pick, but we saw last year this team lose too many games to ineffective secondary play. IMO there is no player the Cowboys could have drafted with the 14th overall & 2nd Round pick that could potentially have the same impact as Claibbourne. The rest of the picks were simply filling in holes and adding depth with young talent that this coaching staff will have to develop. Claibourne has the talent to be an elite, franchise player, but there is also nothing wrong if he simply becomes a solid, dependable 6-8 year veteran like Newman was. Regardless, having a piece like this on the field allows the rest of the defense to open up.

The thing I like most is the way the Cowboys have positioned themselves to be in the power position come next offseason. Jenkins & Spencer have been disappointments due to their inability to remain consistent or show effort; these are not the kind of players I want to give long-term contracts especially at premium prices. This draft essentially frees them of being backed into a corner. If Jenkins & Spencer bust, the Cowboys simply let them walk and pick up compensatory picks. If they boom the Cowboys now have the option of signing them long-term or franchising/transitioning them and trading them away.

Cowboys need a lot of things to go right but one of the things I'd like to see is Sean Lee continue to get better and become a pro bowler and Bruce Carter Emerge as a Nickle Threat and pick off some passes and make some hard hits causing fumbles.

I'd Like to see Andre Holmes Emerge as the third wr. After that I would Take Radway or KO.

Re: Dallas Cowboys War Room

Can't wait for this season.

This team is sooo close, so close to getting over the top.

I look back at last year and cringe at dumb mistakes, stupid play calling, etc.

Tony is coming off a great year. Dez is in his 3rd year. Miles can hopefully stay healthy. I'm interested in seeing Murray off the injury.

Game 1, at NY will tell a lot. No other way to put it. That's a HUGE game and will tell us a lot about this teams mentality. 3 more months!
