Luckily my GM really wasn't being a dummy. Here were my draft results in a more collaborative effort from myself and the GM.
This might have been the only draft I have never traded down in, and for the most part, the GM suggestions were pretty solid. I've never looked at a guide or anything, so I am basically just hoping that most of these guys will be solid, besides Clady and Woodson who I know are beasts.
I differed from my GM a few times though. At 5.132 he wanted John David Booty, but I picked the top rated player at a position of need which happened be DT Red Bryant, as I already had Jay Cutler and Andre Woodson on the roster. Athya Rubin was right underneath Bryant on the draft board, but of course I'm avoiding manually picking sleepers.
At 5.135 and 5.143, my GM wanted WR Keenan Burton both times, but with Brandon Marshall, Bernard Berrian (FA pickup), Harry Douglas, and Marcus Smith, I didn't need another young WR, so I took the highest rated player at positions of need for both of those picks, which were LOLB Angelo Craig and HB Mike Hart.
My last pick, 7.212, my GM wanted K Brandon Coutu, but with Rob Bironas (another FA pickup) already on the roster, I differed and took the highest rated player remaining, CB Jonathan Wilhite.
As far as trading, I moved up 4 times
WR Glenn Martinez (66), P Sam Paulescu (78), 2009 6th round pick
to the Redskins for
3rd round (84th) pick (WR Marcus Smith)
RG Montrae Holland (76), RG Chris Kuper (76)
to the Colts for
3rd round (93rd) pick (QB Andre Woodson)
RT Erik Pears (77), 2009 5th round pick
to the Jets for
4th round (99th) pick (WR Harry Douglas)
WR Brandon Stokley (78)
to the 49ers for
5th round (135th) pick (LOLB Angelo Craig)
As a new coach, I felt it wasn't too unrealistic to move some of my lower end guys. Its actually pretty fun trading up when you have no idea who you're GM will suggest.
So overall, I was fine with the majority of my GM's suggestions, and I don't think this draft will produce an insane amount of immediate starters.
