Re: Rebuilding the Raiders

It came time for the pre-season promise and I promised him to win the conference. So we will see how that goes. I had a tough call on RT/LT Wilson. He has not played a complete season yet for me and he is always complaining if he doesnt start. But there is nothing I can do when he gets injured...like now. He also gives up quite a few sacks for the right side. So I moved him to the back-up position on the left side and am going to start Rookie Watkins on the right. His Progressions look great. I think the one thing really hurting Wilson is his Awareness was maxed at a 50. So we will see how this works out.

I going to try to get Boma in this draft, if I can, then I will be trading both of my Guards, IF Watkins develops like I hope he will.

Re: Rebuilding the Raiders

alright, that makes sense then. I dont necessarily know why he was scrambling for you(never really has for me but it might be philosophy setting). If he didnt develop then you got enough for him.
Future reference, put it at strong arm tools or field general for your qb philosophy and he'll develop well in the west coast offense(can be mvp the first year).
The other thing I might not be putting into consideration is I when I have had him, I've used motivator fairly early in his career, first 2-3 years latest. That might be another reason why he was developing as fast for me and not for you.

Also, dont pick boma too early(unless its the 2nd one)! If you dont scout him at all you can grab him in the 5th or 6th round for real cheap 3 years(if its the 2nd brother, grab him in the early 3rd). if he wants too much after that you can just tender him for a 1st and 3rd pick.

Re: Rebuilding the Raiders

I guess I just to show some ignorance here...but when do the brothers show up? I have never tried to get them so this will be a first for me. It is 2010 so is this one the first one or did I miss out?

Re: Rebuilding the Raiders

Week 1, Sep 5 2010 vs Denver Broncos

The Raiders hosted conference rival Denver in an ugly game that saw the Raiders pull out all of the stops to try and come away with the win.

The Broncos took the opening kick and were forced to punt after 3 incomplete passes. The Raiders got the ball on their 48 and were able to get the ball to the 24 where they faced a 4th and 8. In a gutsy move, the Raiders went for it and were able to convert on a 15 yard pass. The drive was capped by a 5 yard TD pass to TE Zach Miller. Raiders 7, Broncos 0.

The teams swapped punts after a series of 3 and outs until the Broncos were able to mount a drive, aided by a Pass Interference call against OLB Rivers on a 3rd and 9 that set them up on the Raiders 23. The Broncos were able to score on a QB Jay Cutler scramble of 7 yards. Raiders 7, Broncos 7.

The Raiders got the ball at the 25 after the kick and QB Scott threw his 8th incompletion of the day. That was the end of Scott, he was throwing into the ground in front of wide open receivers. So Rookie QB Green was given control of the team with 1:42 left in the half. Green hit 5 straight passes before he was sacked twice. The clock expired before the Raiders were able to call time out to set up for the FG so the teams headed to the locker room tied at 7.

The Raiders took the opening drive of the 2nd half down the field and appeared to have taken the lead when RB Turner broke down the left sideline for a 22 yard run, but no, he is tackled at the Goal Line. However FB Pryor is able to finish the drive as he bulls his way into the End Zone. Raiders 14, Broncos 7.

The Broncos are able to respond with a 1 play 80 yard drive as TE Alge Crumpler takes a short pass on the left and spins out of 2 tackles and breaks 3 others as he sprints to the End Zone. Raiders 14, Broncos 14.

The Raiders start a great drive, but the running game stalls and Janikowski hits the 44 yard FG. Raiders 17, Broncos 14.

The Broncos and Raiders once again trade punts before the Broncos start to move the ball. The DBs knock down 3 straight passes to force the Broncos to punt again.

The Raiders get a great return from Bellows and start the drive on the Broncos 47. They are able to get the ball to the 23 after going for it on 4th and inches, but that doesnt work because there is a False Start so now on 4th and 5 Green hits WR Hixon for a 9 yard pass and RB James FINALLY breaks a run as he scampers to a 23 yard TD, but what?? A Flag??? Clipping on FB Pryor so now it is 1st and 23 from the 35. So once again the Raiders face a 4th and 5, this time from the 17 and they once again shock the home crowd as the offense takes the field. Green once again shows his poise as he hits TE Zach Miller across the middle for the 17 yard TD. Raiders 24, Broncos 14.

Once again the teams trade punts twice and the Broncos once again start to move the ball. The Raiders defense finally wakes up and force them to attempt a 55 yard FG that falls short. The Raiders start to work the clock as the Broncos call their time outs. The Raiders face a 4th and inches on the Broncos 38 and decide to call a QB Sneak to run the clock down. Green stumbles and bumbles for a 9 yard game, but what is this...more flags??? Clipping on RT Tucker??? So facing a 4th and 16 Rookie Punter Bryan hits a booming kick of 50 yards that rolls dead on the 1 yard line!

The Broncos are able to complete 1 pass before the clock hits 0:00.

So the Raiders start the season 1-0. Next week the Chargers come to town.

Re: Rebuilding the Raiders

Week 1 Observations

This was an ugly game. It was one that can destroy controllers...

The Bad...RB James again only averaged 2.3 YPC. He had 35 yards, and 11 of those came on 1 play. Back-up Turner averaged a respectable 3.5 so I am back at the drawing board with James. Starting QB Scott was AWFUL! Before I pulled him he was 6-14 for 60 yards. He was overthrowing, underthrowing and just missing wide open receivers. I am not sure who will start against San Diego. My pass rush was not there. I was able to get 3 blitzes, but for the most part Cutler had all of the time he wanted. This was against a back-up LG and C. Third down conversions...2 of 12??? DISGUSTING!! Finally...penalties...5 for 61 yards!!

The good...well thank goodness QB Green decided to show up, he was 17 of 21 for 214 yards. The kicking game was great because they had 0 yards on kick returns. Finally, new Punter Bryan...WOW...before that last kick he was averaging 42 YPK, but that 50 yarder was awesome!

We will see what happens next week...

Re: Rebuilding the Raiders

I think you already missed the first brother, the second one should come out in the next 2 drafts. First brother is in the first fake draft with Jack english and leron james and all them. 2nd brother comes out 2 years later at the same position(RG).

He will be drafted higher than his brother because his older brother was a sleeper that no one scouted. Once they saw him succeed in the nfl teams knew to look at his brother(at least thats something like schefter says during one of the scouting results).

1st brother usually goes somewhere between 4-6 depending on if you yourself scout him. If you scout him he will get drafted earlier than later, vice versa if you dont.

2nd brother will be a 2nd-4th pick depending on if you scout him and if there's a major need for a team at rg during the 2nd-4th rd.

Fear not though, You may be able to work out a trade for the first brother! Fairly cheaply too...

Look through the league at rg and find him. He wont cost much, maybe a 4&7th in different years I bet(unless he progressed towards his potential). That or trade a mediocre player with a 4th for him. something like that. He might not even start on the team that drafted him, the game does this for some reason. The cpu doesnt ALWAYS know who all the sleepers are.

My Personal theory? The GM skills. I think if a gm is terrible at judging potential at positions where they draft a sleeper, they dont know how good they will be because they suck at judging potential. Just a theory though....

PS Ignorance is not a flaw, unless you allow it to stay that way. Ask questions and you will receive answers from someone here, soon enough, maybe a day or two max!

Re: Rebuilding the Raiders

Also, dont judge the team by that game against the broncos(at least the pass rush). Shannahan and his OLC have perfect development of learning on the oline. Almost impossible to get sacks unless you're stacked on d against them(might be exaggerating a little but you get the point). Doesnt help that they also got 6'5 brandon marshall on the outside killin all cbs except namdi(?) asmougha and a couple other 6'2 and taller cbs. Also got jay cutler with the strongest arm in the game pretty much(like a 97 to 99 depending on if he's progressed). Shannahan makes that team ridiculous....

Re: Rebuilding the Raiders

Thanks for all of the information...you would think with me being a teacher I would think about the "question" thing myself...that is what I tell my students all of the time.

I will see if I can find the other Boma brother. Like I said, I have never used them so this will be a new experience for me.

As far as the Denver game went, I think what was so frustrating was I knew the starting Center and Right Guard were out with injuries. What made all of this worse was Brandon Marshall is gone! He is now with Tampa Bay. This game is in love with Cutler, his Awareness must be through the roof because the few times I did get pressure on him he would let the pass fly a split second before my defense got there.
