How many times should I trade Mike Brown?

It's beginning to look like I can trade him as many times as I can afford the cap space. Let me start from the beginning: I decided to trade Mike Brown shortly after the first preseason game. I had drafted Kenny Philips and another player almost as good as Brown who has a 82 rating.

I immediately put Brown on the trade market and received an offer of a third round pick from the Panthers. I did the trade and almost immediately the Panthers released him! I decided I might as well have my cake and eat it too. I then found Brown in FA and signed him to a FA deal for 1 million. I then thought"what if i traded him again"? I received another offer of a third round pick, this time from St. Louis, and they promptly released him!

I've now reached a moral decision. Do I sign him again for 1 million. If I do, can I resist the temptation to trade him again . I only had a 1st, second, and 4th in the 2009 draft, and it's really tempting to see how far I can take this.

I did this myself with steve smith in his later years.. I was curious and believe it topped out at 3 or 4 before I was unable to find anyone who wanted him... Then I had to restore my last save though.. what can i say ,, it felt dirty lol..

Re: How many times should I trade Mike Brown?

I had a situation like that with Rodney Harrison in my Pats franchise. I was working on dismantling their defense to move to a Cover 2 and had no need for an aging, injured slow safety, so I dealt him the first chance I could. The team I dealt him to immediately had to release him due to cap concerns. So I picked him up again and thought, "There were quite a few teams interested last time, let's see what I can get for him." Turns out the top bidder was the same team again and once again they released him. Holding so many of that team's picks I decided to be nice and deal him to a different team the third time around and they were able to hang on to their bounty.

This is a flaw in the AI. The game is easy enough without stocking up on draft picks. My house rule is that I can only trade a player once.

I posted something similar to this a while back. I traded MLB Bradie James to the Broncos and then again to the Texans for a 3rd, 4th, and 7th. This also happens with players with a low injury rating. I do consider that as cheese, so I didn't do it anymore after that.

But if you don't mind exploiting the AI deficiencies, here is another "get over on the man" move: After the free agency bidding is done and you can freely sign free agents without bidding and paying a signing bonus (usually during the pre-season) you can sign the remaining top-rated free agents and trade them for more picks. I tried it out just to see what would happen and I ended up with 5 second round picks.

But like I said, there is a level of cheese to it, so I would avoid this method if you are going for a realistic sim experience.

I think that takes it beyond cheese and straight into cheating. You can only use it at a certain time/area, you get bonuses for nothing with zero risk towards yourself...It is basically an elongated "cheat code"

It brings back memories of up-down-up-down-left-right-left-right-A-B-A-B-Select-Start of contra lol.

It's academic, because I was only able to do it twice. St. Louis had already signed him to the minimum after I re-loaded. I only did it to begin with because I was going to be so short on draft picks the following year.

Or the A-B-A-C-A-B-B blood code for Mortal Kombat...It's a real shame that we still remember those codes, LOL.

Yeah, I reverted back to my pre-saved game before proceeding. I just wanted to see how far I could go. But I do agree, it does have that game genie, super code feel to it.
